Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Mine did the same thing and it was the hydraulics giving up the ghost.

Was inspecting everything today and found this brass bar had disconnected from the drivers side clamshell hook.

I installed a SmartTop module, which I absolutely love, however, my top randomly won't open or close.

Ill have to re-check my other side I dont remember seeing it.

Suggestion
I have only had to do it 4-5 times now and not sure exactly what it is "resetting" but thought I would throw it out there.

They suggested I turn off the module (set the dip switch to off" to see if its the module or something else but it hasn't happen in a little while so I haven't bothered to try.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All, thanks for the help. A problem I noticed recently is that when I try to open the top with the key in the door, the windows will roll down, but back wont pop up. The latch will come undone, but the top wont move. Then Ill go to close it again and the latch will close kind of roughly.
When I try it from inside the car, the windows will go down. The latch will come undone. The back wont deploy (whatever you call that clamshell thing) and then the Cabriolet indicator light will blink several times. When I close it again the latch will close over and over again. Sometimes the car wont consider it closed and wont allow me to roll up the rear windows.
Eventually, after trying to open and close it and the latch opening and closing several times, turning the car off and then back on again eventually, the whole thing will just work. It does look to me like the back is maybe opening slowly when it does.
Any idea whats going on here? Thanks again for any help!
There are a lot of micro-switches and a lot of moving parts plus a lot of Software Logic....So for weird issues like this you will need a PIWIS and a good understanding of how all of these parts are supposed to function properly to find the Root Cause..
Have you noticed any puddles in front of your rear wheels? Mine did the same thing and it was the hydraulics giving up the ghost. I got them rebuilt and works as good as new now. This isn’t a super rare issue and as these age it will be more common - the fix was about $650 to swap for rebuilt units and about $650 for the labor so not terrible.
Thanks guys! Was inspecting everything today and found this brass bar had disconnected from the drivers side clamshell hook. Was able to pop it back on there and seems. Fine. Would explain the intermittent operation as the hook was just spinning in random positions.
That bar connects with a

its a 4mm clip that holds the brass arm in place. It must have come off. Common issue.
Thank you! Ill have to re-check my other side I dont remember seeing it.
Mentally trying to figure out how that bar and safety clip would work together, but in the meantime, Im ordering two!
Interesting. I installed a SmartTop module, which I absolutely love, however, my top randomly won't open or close.
I found that pulling a reinstalling fuse A3 cause the top to work immediately. I have only had to do it 4-5 times now and not sure exactly what it is "resetting" but thought I would throw it out there.
And yes, I have contacted Mod4Cars. They suggested I turn off the module (set the dip switch to off" to see if its the module or something else but it hasn't happen in a little while so I haven't bothered to try.
The cabriolet dash light is blinking three times after it is done opening as opposed to just going off. Is it trying to tell me something?
Doesnt do the same three blinks when closing though.
