Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'essier job' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'essier job' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean radiators' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also would be a great time to clean the radiators.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm struggeling on what to do with my car.
I've only had it about a month but I think that the nose looks awkward.
I've been reading about spoilers and many threads say that you should have a rear wing or spoiler if you're going to have a front one.
This is an OEM GT2 front spoiler. I'm not a "wanna be" GT2 guy and I do like the aggressive look of it...but my car is what it is...a regular 996.
I like the side skirts (even though they are MKI) but not sure what to do to balance the car.
I'm thinking of updating the wheels, maybe turbo twists or some sort of mesh wheels.
So I guess my question is, what should I do next?
Get a wing or spoiler?
Wheels?
Change the nose?
I'm looking for opinions.
Thanks
If you like the look of the nose, then a spoiler might be the way to go. Otherwise, I agree with the previous comments about a MK II aero nose. You could also put a C4S/turbo front bumper on it, which would still give a more aggressive look, but not as "over the top" as the GT2 nose.
A Mk II front bumper cover does not go well with the Mk I skirts. The body line running down them is completely different from the line that exits on the sides of the bumper cover. A RUF rear spoiler is the closest narrow body spoiler that I can imangine would go with the bumper cover you have now. It is a wing style but was made for a narrow body car.
Its amazingly simple. About 5 or 7 screws hold it in place. Also would be a great time to clean the radiators. Do a search on RL or even Youtube. It is simple. Can't help you with the nose but I'd post it in the GT2/GT3 section.
The problem is, its not a wide body car. Thats why the exotic front looks out of place. I would sell it and get a turbo nose. Thats why porsche made the 40th aniversery 911 with the narrow body and turbo nose. Better yet, somebody will trade their turbo nose for a GT2 nose. So you wont have to buy anything Maybe even get a few bucks to boot.
OK - think back, what made you like this car over the other 996's you saw.... the bumper was differant (I am guessing)
so keep it
I would guess OEM GT2 stuff is not too hard to get rid of, I dont know... you might do OK with a nose. Wings are hot tickets
- Stock exhaust.... those things are smoken in the resale market
some reason I have a belly ache now....
as for your car, seriously its not bad, too big in many people's eye, but 'F' em, its your car
YES... it will look a lot better once you install MKII side skirts.... they have more of an edge and will line up better with the edge on the bumper... without the MKII side skirts it looks "unbalanced".... install those and if you still don't like it go back to the MKII front bumper and it will still look good with the new side skirts... but I think the side skirts will complete the package....
I'm not one that usually likes wings, but with that front end, it may be needed to visually balance out the look. If you are going to go "loud" go all the way like Fly 996. If that's not your style, then go with a less aggressive nose.
Alternatively, I would consider going with 19" rims. The larger rims may help tie in the overall look of the car to the current nose.
If you are able to stay out of the potholes maybe try new suspension parts. I have a heck of a time with parking lot curbing some days.....I hate concrete. Anyway the front end does look nice but I'm not sure if the car has the power to push it at higher speeds. I just thing it looks like it would catch more air then a stock front end. I know a GT2 does have power to push any front end
Blunt surfaces do eat some big horsepower and top end at speed. Could altogether be better to go with a different front but I'm not sure on the stats.
Thanks for all of the opinions, I really like the nose. Maybe getting the correct side skirts would be a better bet. The MKI side skirts look a little wimpy.
But whixh side skirts would do the trick.
Redridge, what are the side skirts in the pictrure of the NB car you showed me?
Are they MKII or something else?
betterbodies.com has both MKII side skirts and the ones that FLY996 has.
Which would look best? If I decide that the GT2 nose is too big even with the side skirts, would FLY996's side skirts look good with a MKII nose?
Also the MKII side skirts come in both Polyurethane for $499.00 and Fiberglass for $375.00. Which do you guys have?
I'm guessing that Polyurethane is more forgiving?
Actually the more I think about it, changing the side skirts is actually a better solution than changing the nose.
I never really liked the MKI skirts. I always liked the nose.
It's probably an essier job to do also. Is changing the side skirts a DYI job?
Can you buy Porsche paint? I have a paint gun and compressor.
theres no such thing as porsche paint, or ferrari paint or kia paint. You just go to a paint supply store and give them the paint code and they show you all the different brands of paint they sell. Look in the phone book ,automotive paint and body supply .
I would recommend R&M BASF DuPont, PPG
I dont recommend you do any of this yourself unless youve had years of experience in paint and body work
there have been some on here that did a DIY side skirts with awesome success in thier garage. I would not, but that doesnt mean you cant
IMO
also - those MKI side skirts have some value, I would have bought them from you if I still had my 996 (even thinking about it w/o
)
I just went on YouTube and looked to see how hard it is to change the front bumper.
It's like 8 screws and the whole thing comes off!!!
After looking at the white and blue GT3, I may look at putting on a turbo or GT3 nose to match the MKI side skirts.
Are MKI skirts completely inapporpriate on a 2003?
I know I'm beating this to death, I'm just trying to figure out my options.
What about a turbo nose and the MKI side skirts?
Why the PO put MKI side skirts on an MKII is besides me
Really??? That makes me feel so much better!!!
I didn't want to drive around with the wrong parts on my car.
So what is the correct nose for an MKI side skirt?
You can get front bumpers on eBay pretty easily and after watching the YouTube bumper removal, it's a piece of cake!
And also, I could sell the GT2 nose.
Any pictures of the MKI front bumper? Is it the GT3 bumper?
Car does feel slightly lighter on the front (I have the Turbo front bumper and standard Turbo lip). I'm working on adding a bigger front lip. One nice thing about the wing is that the blade angle is adjustable...with the new lip I should be able to dial in the ideal setup.
