Well, this night I found that spot, and it later turned out to be in the middle of the parking bureau zone (checked the signs but missed it!).

They also do a DUI checkpoint Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays right by where I work, & so far they've just told me to go ahead, no check for me.

Seriously guys... I have had my C4S for 2 weeks, and I already felt the pain of being harassed by frustrated and jaleous cops.
No later than this week-end, I took a trip to NYC to visit some friends. I have been pulled over 3 times (hand picked from a very heavy traffic too) and taken for a breathalyzer. 3 times I tested negative and passed the test. Those 3 times I really saw the smile of the cops fading away when they realized I would not get ticketed.
Additionally, I parked in the meat packing on saturday night on a no parking spot, in the middle of dozen of other cars, which were wilde-parked as well... and guess what? I was the only getting a ticket: $115 and that was at 2am- the funny thing is that the cop spelled porsche incorrectly on the ticket (porshe... )
Have you guys felt that you're seen as a "deep-pocket-you-can-afford-a-ticket" and then more likely to be fined than if u were driving a corolla?
So far, no. I was guilty of hauling *** once and the guy in front got nailed. I've never yet been pulled over (16 months), never gotten a parking ticket. I keep expecting to get pulled over for the lack of a front plate (illegal here in California), and I recently realized I have expired tags (I keep forgetting to put on the new tag after I wash the car!).
Heck, I would have pulled me over a few times, but so far I haven't been.
I've only gotten one ticket so far. New Mexico, 3am, doing 90mph when I saw an SUV pull up and start tailgaiting me. He followed me for several miles so I bumped it up to 105mph. He slowly pulled up to me again and started following me for a few miles, then he turned his lights on.. it was a damn cop the whole time.
He wrote me up for 90mph in a 70mph zone, and complimented me on my car - said he knows it's made for this kind of driving, but I don't "own the roads"..
Why would you get breath tested 3 times?!?! Are you a jerk or something? I always get along great with cops and never have problems.
Nope...quite the opposite. I've been let off of every speeding ticket since the Porsche and the cop usually ends up chatting to me about the car. Most cops are motorheads too.
BTW: last time I was clocked at 147km/h in a 100 km/h zone...no ticket, just a warning.
I try to behave like I'm the luckiest and most grateful guy in the world for having the ability to own such a car. Good karma given = good karma returned in favor.
Generally, no. However, I did get pulled over once for doing 38 in a 35 (that's where he clocked me and squares with what my speedo was showing). When the cop came to the window, I honestly had no idea why I was there - I knew I hadn't been speeding or accelerating hard. He let me go with a warning. I'm guessing he wouldn't have stopped me if I had been driving my wife's SUV instead of the 996.
No tickets, but I will say that on several occasions I was the only car in a long string that was hit with I/O Ka band. I was't speeding anyway, but it is kind of funny.
well, I'm in NYC but rarely park this thing on the street so I can't speak to parking violations really. I've never been pulled over in the 911, either in LA or NYC, however I have been paced and "pulled out" on a few times, especially in certain areas when pulling onto freeways (LA getting on the 10 in Santa Monica like 3 times and twice coming onto the Palisades Parkway from the GWB) Just don't let em see your brake lights!
you know I didn't even think of that, haha. you were a casualty of the Sox!
I definitely drive slower in NJ, PA, CT and DE with my NY plates, must be subconscious!
My favorite is when I was in Flushing (Queens, NY) when I had to park in a muni garage. Of course, I always look for a "Porsche spot". You know, the one that has a wall/curb at least on one side, on the opposite side of the parking lot, where only a mad man would even have the idea of parking. Well, this night I found that spot, and it later turned out to be in the middle of the parking bureau zone (checked the signs but missed it!). Came back to have tickets for parking in restricted space, no front plate, and a notation of expiried temporary registration. ---- What my bro said was... you wanted a Porsche parking space, no? I was pretty mad at the time, but in retrospect that was pretty funny.
Aside from that, if I ever do the most minor thing wrong in the Porsche, I am "the ******* in a Porsche". I've just come to accept it for what it is.
Had one pull over when I had a 911 that felt a bit like a DWB (driving while black). I was off strip in Vegas with a very attractive friend in the car and got a ticket for doing 35 in a 30.
Since making the move to F I feel like royalty wheverer I go. Sometimes it is over the top. I have had a cop pull up to me at a light and aske me if I wanted to 'race'. Valets, detailers, service people and LE have all been absolutely lovely. If I could just get random folks from racing up to me and then pacing me while snapping pictures on their cell phones I would be happier still.
Where were you in the Meat Packing District Saturday?? I was in the city and hit Del Posto on 10th ave btwn 15th and 16th...very very good!
Ha! I'm the king of DWB pre and post 996. I have 35 pull overs on my record yet only 4 tickets. Just be glad you actually get "ticketed" for something instead of pulled over for nothing.
Anyway, in the 996 I've been pulled over and ticketed twice. The first time I was cited in VA for doing 90 in a 65 with cars riding to my right, one in front and one directly behind, while a mini van passed me on the left ,however, my cruise control was set to 75. I took the fight to court and actually had the cop up against the wall with my questioning, but since in traffic court the judge acts as Judge, Jury and prosecutor, I was shot down. I ended up having to take a VA traffic class to have the case dismissed. What's funny is the town was a small town near Fort AP Hill where everyone murmured(sp?) when the judge stated my name and utterer the words "Porsche Carrera, huh?". The entire courtroom assumed I was guilty. lol! After I left the court, the officer caught up with me outside and asked me "where did you learn to asked those questions"..lol!! I took RT301 home instead of I95 just to be safe.
The 2nd pull over was last Summer, a 90 in a 55, plus a bonus ticket for "changing lanes doing 90" on the Capital beltway in MD. Of course I had to ask how much is the ticket for if I change lanes doing 56mph? $450 in fines and 5 points! Fortunately, the guy riding with me that evening was at the time a public defender for that court, he told me which judges to avoid. I dragged that case out only to finalized it last Friday with a 64mph in a 55mph. I really was doing 55, but 5 or so miles prior I may have been going faster. Paid $140 from being found guilty, $80 for the appeal and once the dust settles I'll be receiving a $87 refund and 1 point.
Both times my top was down. So keep your top close and do 45mph in a 55 mph like covette drivers do to be safe.
Oh well... I have to settle with a 4S... however I want my first Fcar by the time I am 35... so hopefully the royalty thing still holds true then
I really like Del Posto - nice crowd too
Ha ha ha I love it ! Sounds so familiar. Reminds me when I got towed in O'hare in 2005 with my M3. I parked my car for 3min (litterally... just the time to rush inside the terminal to check the arrival board and returned to the car, all this running)
The only annoying thing is that my car was parked between a chevy and a toyota, but they managed to squeeze their truck in between to tow my car only. I was shocked but still paid my $190 fine... unreal.
Yes, I was 2nd in a line of 6 vehicles that did an illegal pass around a truck doing 20mph in a 55mph zone. The motorcycle cop waived me over along w/ the lead driver and the other cars behind me pulled over as well. He waived them on, but gave me and the leader a ticket.
I called his supervisor and claimed discrimination, but was told the cop had the right to make the call and keep what he thought was safety in mind. I told him his officers needed better training because they use very poor judgment as us rich P-car folks are the ones that keep donating to their fundraising efforts. I told him not to expect much from me this year, or next year unless I start getting treated better.
That's the type of comment that will likely result in a double fine... I usually keep quiet and do a burn out when I leave the shoulder, just to **** 'em off
Oh, I was entirely professional and courteous during the ticketing process. When the cop was finished and asked if I had any questions, I asked him if I got the ticket because I had the P-car and he smiled and said yes, that was his choice. I drove away briskly but in no way offensive, then called his office and brought this matter to his manager's attention. I asserted that discrimination in any way by his officers damaged his dept's reputation and gave the tax-paying public a very negative perception of his officers. I paid a $40 fine and point reduction to 1 point. Not even worth the court's or my time to fight it.
Positive discrimination only. The only ticket I got in my 911 was for having no frt license plate and the cop apologized and said if I put it back on and showed him, he would cancel the ticket. I paid it anyway, and still run without the plate.
One ticket that I went to court on, happened 4 years ago in my boxster. Line of 6 or 7 cars, he turned around and passed everybody to get up to me (3rd in line) and gave me a ticket for 66 in a 55, then slowly walked around and wrote me for no front license plate (car was 2 weeks old with the temporary sticker on the window). I got it dismissed because he was not only an ***, but was very sloppy. Ticket was written as vehicle: Black Convert. License: Temp Tag. The judge looked at the officer and motioned like Come-on! - Dismissed.
One warning last year in my 996. Officer heard modified muffler going a bit from stop sign and chased me down to see if I was speeding. Ran me through the riot act, but never told me why he pulled me over. I finally demanded to know why he pulled me over and he said "I don't need any lip from you, and am gracing you with a warning". I said "thank you, what are you warning me for". He smiled and said, "get out of hear or I'll find something, oh, nice car, keep it on the road".
Maybe there is some truth to the urban myth on car color
Just out of curiosity, what color is your car?
Prior to my P-car I had a 2006 Lehmans blue corvette (looks like metallic electric blue) and I got pulled over a few times.
Since getting a seal grey C4 - I drive more often and more aggressively, but haven't been pulled over.
Del Posto was very good indeed. We ended up there b/c my first choice, Baboo, was booked (3wks out!)...next time.

I am surprised that the OP is being 'targeted' in such a big city as Boston where I would have imagined that 911's are a dime a dozen. When I had a 911I focused on simply NOT breaking the law (except for the 35 in the 30
)
But, if you are really driving 30miles over the speed limit on heavy trafficed public roads or parking in drop off zones in airports I think you NEED to get a ticket/towed/etc.
Last night I was driving back from LA to San Diego, on the 15, & miracle, there was absolutely NO traffic. I was going 120 & passed right by a cop. Didn't get pulled over. By the way, I don't have front plates (don't like them), no rear plate either, & my windows are tinted very dark (illegal here in CA), lol. Haven't gotten told anything yet either. They also do a DUI checkpoint Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays right by where I work, & so far they've just told me to go ahead, no check for me. I also always take up 2 parking spaces so people won't hit my car, & no complaint yet... So I think I feel the exact opposite of you, like I get better treatment since I bought the car, I've even had cops wave at me while driving, haha. Although I could just have good luck.
I hadn't been stopped in about 13 years. I picked up the P car in Kentucky this past March, drove back to NY over Easter weekend. On Easter Sunday morning, I go pulled over 1/10 of a mile from my house (I pulled up my driveway). I had the local sheriff on my Passport for about 1 minute before I saw him. He asked if it was registered, I told him that my name was even on the temporary tags. He told me to slow down a bit. I decided not to comment at all to that.
It's hard not to be one of those jackasses when ****ing dicks purposely park as close to you as possible to be annoy you or when morons hit you with their door. I still remember the time some ******** both sandwiched me in a parking lot. On my side, I couldn't even open the door, & on the passenger side, I could barely slide my hand through, so I had to open the window from the passenger side, & slide in through the window, then hop over to my seat. I suspected both cars came together & purposely did this, since they BOTH drove POS & BOTH had license plates from Baja California. Point is I got pissed, broke their windows, keyed their POS cars, & left them a note with my name & number incase they wanted to fight me. I mean hey, it was one of those ****ty days, & I was in a hurry to get to work, & on top of everything they make me deal with their
! So they got what they were asking for. By the way, they never called to set up an appointment with me for a fight... Anyway, the moral of the story is that after experiences like that, of course I'm the jackass that parks like that, but at least I'm not the jackass with the smart comments.
Wow...that seems like totally normal reaction.
Don't worry, if you continue to take up 2 parking spaces, someone will find it in their hearts to key your car.
exactly - because we all know that smashing windows and keying someone's car makes people feel so sorry that they acted like asses.
Hell, that kind of retaliatory behavior is so normal for a rational person.
Honestly, sometimes I really wonder.
Driving like an idiot one day in traffic and apparently being followed by four undercover cops for about five miles. They wait until I stop at a friends house where I was going and they all pulled in around me with guns drawn and I notice a helicopter overhead. One of the officers was demanding my licence and registration when I finally located it and handed it to him he looked at it and returned it right away. I asked what was I doing, he says, well over 100 in a 50 but I am letting you go because we thought you stole the car and he has never seen anyone drive their own car like that. I tried to hand him my keys and said you go take it for a ride and tell me how you would like to drive it when you come back. He said 'no thanks' just be careful.
All the stories I hear that happen like that the driver ends up shot while reaching for his wallet.
So you didn't notice them following you while doing 100 in a 50?
The myth has always been Red cars get pulled over more and have higher insurance. I cant say I see any truth in the latter, but I can see a bold color car standing out on the road, catching the attention of the police.
Agressive driving certainly won't help the situation
I guess thats discrimination by color -
There was a lot of traffic.
I always keep my hands on the wheel until they arrive at the window and then tell them I am reaching for my wallet, paperwork etc... At that point they ask if I have any weapons in the car. Usually they just let me go for respecting their safety.
Not so much from cops, but definitely from other motorists. They assume I'm an 4sshole right from the start. Truth is I only drive the P-car when I have time to go for a ride and enjoy the experience. I like meeting people who are fans of the marque and want to bench race for a few minutes. I get cut-off more, scowled at, finger saluted, and just generally disrespected.
Most parts of Ga is occupied by NASCAR loving cops who wonder if their modified Camaro could keep up with a P-car. The only ones you have to watch for are the newbies looking for some action. Now if you ride sportsbike near Atlanta, you had better WATCH YOUR 6!! Ask me about my 101 in a 55 experience (don't be so shocked, I was making a pass to get away from dueling SUVs running 80)
We get a 10-over-the-limit buffer from the locals and a night stick across the head for 1-over from the staties, but most cops are pretty tolerant here. My grey hair helps, too.
