Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

THE CAMP (Computerized Automobile Multi Player) CPU ideally is mounted hidden away, then simply uses an available monitor input (from your Nav screen).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can some of you with after market audio head units (any brand) post some pictures and your impressions of how they integrate into the look of the cabin. I would love to see and hear about anyones experience with Alpine (I like the Ipod interface ability). Thanks.
Hello,
I found the 996 Hi-Fi pack CRD22, changer amd amp very tinny and shrill, and am having it all taken out and a new system put in, including an Alpine TDA 7592R Head Unit. I chose this on the advice of the dealer, because I want Cassette, CD, Tuner and auxillary (iRiver HD) as sources.
Also new amp, speakers, CD changer.
The Alpne unit has selectable amber illumination, so will match the dial lights.
I will try to post pictures after the install.

i'll take a pic of my CDA-9835 (w/ipod interface)
this H/U has selectable colors for the main buttons (i tuned my to Amber) but the screen is only blue/gray.
the Amber buttons are a near match for the stock lighting - but not perfect and the majority of the buttons only have 2 settings (amber and green) + the 4 tunable color buttons (which have hundreds of colors)
My iPod connector is mounted in the center console and works as the CD-changer (you can add a changer, Nav, etc as well via the AI net expander).
Just my opinion, but ALL Porsche audio sucks. I ripped it all out and replaced with an Alpine IVA-D300, Alpine NAV NVE N852A, Sirius sat., new amp, speakers, and sub. The Alpine head unit is awesome. I'll try and post photos after this weekend.
I bought the HK traffic pro w/ navigation. Becket and HK are the same company and the unit is near identical to the CDR 220. I may have had a problem with my 220 but the HK sounds noticably better.
it looks a little out of line because its set at a bit of a tilt..but normally i drive with it set flat up and it fits perfectly flush ontop of the main unit... and slides in when the car is off.
Here are some pics of my new Alpine Head Unit. The rest of the set up (speakers, amp, CD changer) are hidden away so it looks stock.
The fasica can tilt out, and it flips down to insert the cassette.
I have turned down the fasica lighting effects to minimum and set the buttons to amber.
I still love using cassettes, making compilations of vinyl singles and albums.

I think that the new pioneer avic N1 has an additional module to do this - but sadly sems to offer no boost gauge.. - that and its flip up only...but I'm sure CES changed thaat.
CES=(Consumer Electronics Show) trade show where all the new toys come out.
HKS = HUGE jap tuning co. They cut there teeth tuning turbos.

no...you WANT to DITCH PCM
1. porsche nav sucks compared to other oem brands (cmon pcmI = cd based, s-l-o-w)
2. porsche nav sucks next to pioneer/alpine/eclipse/kenwood
3. porsche bose sux compared to aftrmkt headunit.
If your car already has pccm then perhaps - but I seriously doubt its easy to hook up an input. Plus, you must now deal with 2 screens.
I've never been a fan up flip screens - too flimsy and then they block other controls.
What I;m doin is this
the eclipse AVN
CAMP
back up cam
so now, the one monitor does the nav/stereo(cd/mp3), plus DVD video if you're into that.
When i select reverse, the backup cam comes up, and when i press the input 2 button, i get the camp.
Its incredible the technology today, 2 years ago, you'de need $10k and lots of space to do this, but with the new AVN...its super easy.
