Thanks for the feedback, I wanted to do it too but unfortunately the rains in CA set me back some...

In informal testing I think I did 0-60 in a little under 5secs.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just joined, though I read your great posts everyday. Would love to hear about superchargers for '03 C4S with 5,500 miles on it; reliability, performance, etc...
I am thinking of the Evo or new RUF Supercharger. I look forward to hearing from such a knowledgable community.
There's a lot of different threads, including some quite recent ones, talking about superchargers. If you are interested in the EVO SC, there's a group buy going on right now that you could probably get into if you acted real quickly.

I'd have to think long and hard before I did it, I actually had the cash in my hand and the phone in the other on two occasions, just couldn't do it. Just seemed like a huge irreversible mistake, jmo.
I gotta see more long term data.
Firstly, its not irreversable. You simply just have the stuff removed.
I just had mine done, had her for four days, and I have to tell you, if you are looking for "zip" this is IT! EVO does a super job of putting it all together, they have done a lot of r/d and I only see a few problems. One, the CARB is an issue, but I know they are working on it and should have it done by the time I have to smog my car. And two, trying to stay out of trouble with the car!! The torque is unreal, 6000 rpms is about as sweet as things can get in a car....it's hard to explain. But, as soon as I have a few more days in the car, I will post my full thoughts and impressions on it.
Did I have second thoughts, yes. I went forward anyway. Am I am happy? YES!! Do I have any regrets? Yes, that I had second thoughts.
Silly girl that I am!
^ good to know its not irreversable. That was one of the things worrying me because if the engen ever blew or was replaced for RMS reasons (none yet, touch wood) the supercharger can be carried over 2 the new engine.
All right, Robyn. My point was that , for me, the idea is so bad I don't even have to explain why not. Emphasize on "for me". I'll expound, just for you, why I think it's a bad idea, again, for me.
The 996 NA engine already has had it's output maximized for the engine design. They've already squeezed the hell out of it. More power requires changes to the engine aside from just bolting on a supercharger or turbo. The GT3 engine is not the same as the regular 996, the TT is a diffent engine block altogether. Just bolting on SC/turbo on these 996 NA engines means you are exceeding design limits since the current HP is already so close to those design limits. Used consistently and aggressively beyond the limits, these engines WILL break.
For me, I think of my 996 C4S as a track car to be used to my driving limits and the car's limits. I've been at the track now for quite a while, and my driving skills still cannot consistently challenge the limits of the car. I am even getting a lower HP car as a track toy to gain beter skills rather than masking the lack of those skills by just getting a monster HP car. Despite my saying that, I have consistently passed higher HP cars, supercharged, turbo charged and whatnot.
And since I regularly drive the car and angine as aggressively as I can, my otherwise stock engine will last longer and serve me better.
If you want the rush of a rocket, get a crotch rocket sport bile. BTW, I'm looking into getting that, too
.
Man, that's too long of a post. Might even get me in trouble. "Don't do it" was better.
You know, I took it out of my original post cause I didn't want you to think i was attacking you. You always provide great feedback to questions, I was just a bit miffed at your response. I knew you had your reasons, and they are indeed good, but that is just what the poster wanted...
I don't believe in bikes (not anymore anyways)...it's not my thing, more power to you and should you get one...be safe out there.
I wanted performance. The reasons I did it? Well here they are in a nut shell. I got my car for an absolute steal. With all that i have done, I have saved $50k in going the route I did, vs. purchasing a Turbo X50.
Even if I blow my engine (Which "touch wood" won't happen), have it replaced...I still have not spent as much as a Turbo X50. My logic might be a bit "off" but it works for me.
Your reasons make absolute sense. Although, they haven't squeezed everything from my specific engine version, they made sure to do that with the 997s.
With regard to the track. I didn't put the supercharger on to make me faster at the track. I pulled my fastest times around a track in a spec 944 than I ever did in my Boxster S, or my Carrera. So yes, I do understand the dynamics of a momentum car and it being about the driver. I put the supercharger on because "I can" and "I wanted to"...nothing more. Life is too short. I don't live for the moment, just in it and try to enjoy life to the fullest. This little "bobble" made me happy.
If you want more zip out of your car, this is a great route to take. If you want to be faster around a track, one needs to learn how to drive. They are completely different in my opinion.
Palting....peace babe...
..I just wanna make sure you understand that I wasn't attacking you, just givin' you a hard time.
I'm sorry I made you feel defensive.
Those of us who took the leap of faith with a SC did the same agonizing you are going through. I would not do it if you are not planning to keep the car 4 + years or in my case indefinitly. In adding mod after mod to our cars we develope investment in time, money and emotion. The SC is just the ultimate mod. I love it. Will
I'll make this short and sweet......
After speaking extensively with the manufacture and the only authorized distributor Ive leaned that at least 75 of these units have successfully been installed and are living new lives with that extra 100+ HP
The Man over at EVO has also pumped his own up an additional 2-3 pounds above what all the rest are set at and after 30K miles everything is fine!!!! To those who are skeptics I would challenge you to find a mod that will deliver more bang for your buck!
I started a thread a while back for a group buy that Im trying to close soon. Ill bump it up after this post so those who are interested might contact me for participation.
Thanks for your comments,
-Eli
Look for the thread titled: SC EVO Supercharger group buy? TAKE TWO
I have 4 confirmed buyers at this time.....
Glen G.
Keith A.
Carlos R.
Leon A. (Just confirmed)
I need only one more to start the group buy purchase!!!!!

I have done a couple sprints, and I will tell you...it simply makes me go "OH MY GOD" over and over!! I will be driving her the rest of the week since the rain has stopped and look forward to providing my driving impressions after a week with her. It goes from 70 to 110 so quick, you don't even realize it!! And there is no power "band"...the power is intense anywhere from 2500 on up. However, 5000 is butt clenching...and 6000 is butt clenching, make your head swim, rubber knee like! This was by far the BEST thing I ever did. I am SO glad I went through with it.
Robyn,
Thanks for the feedback, I wanted to do it too but unfortunately the rains in CA set me back some... So this summer (when it's dry) I'll have to pay someone to knock down and build a new retaining wall. It's either that or have water in my garage again.....
Be careful, it may rain on Friday...
-Eli
In informal testing I think I did 0-60 in a little under 5secs. I did this from a dead stop at a toll plaza on the San Mateo bridge and then gunned it! It felt pretty damn fast!
on a track I'm sure it's even faster, as I approached 60mph I let up for fear of CHP.
well when the weather gets better Robyn, another TT owner and I will be heading to Sac Speedway to do 1/4 mile sprints. then we can compare a 6speed, Tip and a chipped 6speed Turbo.
So glad you did it Robyn. The car sounds so darn mean now too! We've got to do two more this month (both are 3.4Ls so they won't be as quick as yours...).
OK, here's a stumper. would any of you who have SCed their car, do it with a high mileage car like mine? 65K. talked to todd and he said sure why not, it will be fine. well i understand he is trying to sell SCs but he is known as an upstanding person. maybe i should have done it a year ago when i was only at 40K :O. my '99 has no porosity problems nor RMS issues.
I am with Todd.....WHY NOT? Look, yes Todd is in the business of selling SC's, but he is also in the business to maintain a good reputaion. I have known Todd to be very honest and straight forward. He pretty much speaks what he believes. No bull**** there.
Todd has over 30,000 miles on his car with the SC on it and from what I understand he doesn't baby his rides....
I would go with it as long as you're not bringing more bagage into the mix.....
-Eli
Carlos,
Well, I don't have as many miles as you do, but I'm doing it on my '99 with 55K. I'll let you know how it goes.
I'll give it to you straight, from one Carlos to another. ;-)
