Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A flat spot around 3200RPM is beginning to annoy me. It is not severe, yet I nootice it...very brief! My Ducati had one and we were able to smooth it on the Dynometer. Is that do-able for a 2003 with a 2005 engine (my engine was replaced three months ago) Many Thanks.

POST 2Original post

It is just when Variable Intake Geometry and Variable Valve Geometry opens up. They all do that. John

POST 3Original post

As the post above. It is most noticeable when you are on slow acceleration. It means you are being a weenie . Just punch it!!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you so much...I just wish that the car came with a guide that informs of what is normal, espected, and flat out ridiculous..

You sir, have a way with words!

POST 6Original post

Yeah, I noticed this too on my this, my first 911. I thought it was a bad clutch! Nice feeling to know it's rather normal. (Did a search on pca.org and found the same thing) By the way, your idea of a guide of what to expect is a great idea. The things that surprised me were: 1. Oil consumption, but well within spec (although my Audi did too) 2. Slight surge at 3200 RPM 3. Some yellow froth in filling tube after too many short drives at cold temps 4. Rear fog lights 5. A certain number of creaks here and there inside the cabin 6. Easily repairable sunroof rattle when open 7. Way more wear on inside surface of tires than on outside

POST 7Original post

things that can exagerate this flat spot feeling is also driving to "meekly" most of the time and then the computer reprograms itself accordingly whilst driving it regularly in a "spirited" fashion will make the car feel much more lively. Also running lower octane regulary will make the flat spot more noticeable. I commented too on this flat spot when I first got mine, but I kkep it full of 94 Octane and rev it to the limit at least a few times a day and it really is a different car now.

POST 8Original post

Your accelerater pedal/linkage might also need to be cleaned...

not sure i buy what you're saying here.

POST 12Original post

Des, et al, Can you tell us less experienced ones, what exact feeling does a flat spot give you? What are the symptoms? Thanks, Andy T

POST 13Original post

When you are accelerating strongly and all of a sudden there feels like a moment of hesitation resumed by further strong acceleration.

I noticed a slightly different feel than others here. (And yes, I was probably driving too meekly. That's changing pretty fast, however!) I noticed a very subtle surge right at 3200 RPM. If you are accelerating fast you do not notice it. I thought for a minute the clutch was slipping, but no other symptoms of this. Searched a little PCA.org and found a few similar reports.
