I replaced the 4 Runner in 2003 with the AWD Porsche and we upgraded the Discovery in 2004 to a 2003 Range Rover

Unlike those of you who have lists of cars, I've only replaced my car twice and my wife's car twice, one time it was replaced only because it was stolen.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Interested in what brought us all to this point, in an automotive sense. Here's a rundown of the projects I've owned since moving here 9 years ago. It's a relatively broad spectrum....
'99 35th Anniversary Mustang GT. Quite possibly the most underwhelming car ever. Lacks power, handles like a boat, and is uncomfortable. I thought it looked real nice though and managed to overcome the HP issue with some FI. Never could overcome the handling issue though:
Me being, well, me
'03 Lancer Evolution VIII. As soon as this thing hit the shores I had to have one. I waited a year for this car and wasn't disappointed.
Mid 12 second car that handled like it was on rails. What more could you want? When I sold it I test drove a bunch of other cars but ended up with....
'05 Lancer Evolution VIII. I couldn't find a car that I liked better for the price, so I bought another one. '05 added front LSD, ACD and more power. It just got better. I have to don my flamesuit here and profess that this is THE best car I have ever owned. A 4 door econobox grocery getter just shouldn't be this much fun. The car is an absolute blast to drive. I just turn up to the track, unload the cooler, my friend's cooler, my tools, my friend's tools and jack, the kitchen sink, and let a little air out the tyres before heading on track.
'03 SVT Focus. Got a deal on this car that I couldn't pass up. My goal was to turn it into a track car and I even considered racing Spec Focus. Unfortunately, the car is so gutless that I could fall asleep driving it. Yes, it handles and brakes well and is fairly tossable, but it's just so damn slooooow. Sold it 6 months later in a quick sale for what I paid for it, so no loss. I actually really like the styling of the 3 door Focus; shame its performance lets it down.
The Evo stayed.
'01 996 Carrera 4. Enough said. Read my other posts.
Still can't bring myself to sell the Evo....
Unlike those of you who have lists of cars, I've only replaced my car twice and my wife's car twice, one time it was replaced only because it was stolen.

I replaced the 4 Runner in 2003 with the AWD Porsche and we upgraded the Discovery in 2004 to a 2003 Range Rover

Hey, Jumper, how did you like your Rangie? This is what I'm looking for right now, to replace the Disco. From what I hear, for a Land Rover, the Gen. 3 Range Rover (the 03-05 BMW-powered version) is pretty good.
It was ok, the only issue I had was the alternator went on it. It also had a few minor issues with the power seat and telescopic power steering wheel.
It really is big though and it's hard to park and takes up 95% of most parking spaces, leaving you only a small gap to enter and exit from.
It attracts a lot of attention, so much so that it was stolen after only having it for
Whoa. That sucks.
I'm not so concerned about the size. I use my SUV almost exclusively at our country place. It's parked all week. Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the threadjack... carry on!

Orient, I didn't know that the Opel GT was sold in the US; my brother in law in Europe just finished his rebuilt of an Opel GT 2 years back; neat lightweight car to drive!
Here's a list of my past rides, beside the last two cars I drove all cars back in Europe (Austria and Switzerland) and all but the 318ti and the X3 were stick shifts.
- '92 Opel Corsa 1.5TD (owned it during college - 50 mpg)
- '89 Opel E Kadett GSI (damn fast and light - 2,130 lbs; no servo, ABS or ESP, no power options)
- '97 Fiat Bravo 1.6si (nice sound & charme but definitely not German quality)
- '98 Fiat Bravo 1.6si (very cheap upgrade)
- '99 BMW 320i (first BMW; never looked back to other brands)
- '02 BMW 325i Wagon (first kid - needed something larger)
- '99 BMW 318ti (wife's car - Steptronic)
- '97 BMW Z3 2.8i M package (I loved the go-kart feeling)
