This is not a probability of success.

It's kind of sad that I'm changing my driving habits to take it easy on my "sports car".
Leading evidence: 'Replace driving habits' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

On right-hand corners, especially longer+tighter ones (like a 270deg onramp I like to frequent) I'm seeing the oil pressure gauge "bob" between 2 and 5. This is freaking me out a bit. I've found that topping up the oil helps a little, but it still happens. I just took the corner at 5/10ths and it started bobbing, although not as far. The recent European Car article, with the blown engine in thier long-term C4s, got me thinking more about this.
Please, 993ers, you don't need to tell me I don't have a dry sump. What I'd like to see is this car holding oil pressure as well as my old MX-5 Miata
Questions:
- should I worry about this? It's kind of sad that I'm changing my driving habits to take it easy on my "sports car".
- are others seeing this, or might my car have something unique going on?
Oil is fresh M1 0w40, stock suspension and tires, etc.
thanks,
Scott.
Yup. I've posted about this. Mine drops to 2 on my favorite turns as well. I just top the sucker to max (electronic oil level is full to the top). I track frequently, so I also keep an eye on the oil once a week and top off as necessary.
Unfortunately, I don't have any other solution to that othe than saying "My car is leased" to myself. I just watch the gauges as carefullly as I can and keep to street tires only with stock suspension.
I figure this car was tested at 11/10ths with Rrhl at the helm around the 'ring, so I'm hoping the engineers didn't fret too much as there are some nasty turns on that circuit and I'm sure he'd have noticed and/or the telemetry would have shown itself (I hope).
So Jyoteen, it sounds like you haven't seen anything *worse* than 2-bar on the track? I'm hesitant to track mine because of this. I'd hate for it to grenade at a DE and have Porsche leave me holding my, um, wallet.
I thought the possibility of grenading 2-turbos in our S4s was ominious ($7k hit), but this takes the cake.
1) How in the world do you have time to look at the gauge? I bow to your skill.
2) I tracked my 986S at Willow Springs (20 laps non-stop once), and never noticed a problem. Oh, I forgot, I didn't have an oil pressure gauge!
I noticed it out of the corner of my eye once, and have been testing it on the same onramp ever since. No, I don't make a habit of looking at the gauges while flying around corners
well, that's the beauty of keeping it stock. My car is absolutely stock. Granted, I've been tempted by sweet Ohlins cup car suspension, but the potential payout is huge.
So, I tend to enjoy trashing stock rubber on stock suspension. I'm not winning any trophies or being sponsored to race, so why put the warranty at risk.
just remember to tighten the oil filler cap
