Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

well to paraphrase him at least.. called and visited local stealer to look at a few 996's on the lot. the idea being that i might move out of both bmw cab and 993 for a 996 cab. at first they didnt even want to give me a test ride, even when i showed up with my own quality porsche product..but relented. "listen you bring both your cars and you decide on which one here you want then we negotiate then you get to drive it" then i asked about RMS "all porsches have seals they drop a little oil" i'm not even going to mention what they would give me for the 993. but i knew that would be a pornographically low bid. why is it that you feel like needing a shower after talking to these guys?

POST 2Original post

Dump this dealer. I've been to a lot of high end car dealerships (BMW, MB, Lexus *and* Porsche) in shorts and a t-shirt. I've never been denied a test drive. In fact, at the BMW dealership, I had to ditch the guy coming after me as I was leaving asking me to test drive some more of their cars. Dump this dealer. How do you think they will service your vehicle once you've given your $$ to them for the car. Dump this dealer. Good luck on your search, I *love* my cab!

POST 3Original post

I second the recommendation to find another dealer. They should be begging for your business. I traded my '03 early on an '07 order (to get a better deal). My salesman would come to my house on his day off and drive me to the airport if I asked.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

oh yeah i'm not going back there. that goes without saying. my bro in law went to another not quite local dlr and he got brand new cayman keys handed to him for solo ride. theres actually a closer guy to me i like better, but didnt have the inventory.

POST 5Original post

Yeah. I would go through a dealer I like and try to get an inventory exchange with another dealer or something. It might take longer to find the car you want but it will be worth it to avoid the hassle of dealing with a lousy dealership.

POST 6Original post

Since you are looking into 996, try 3rd party, eBay, autotrader etc. You'll get a newer car for the same money. Dealers don't do much to their cars any ways. Shop around. I finding many 993 folks taking a dive for 996. I wonder why...

POST 7Original post

I will be out of the door after he said that... The first time I went to look at 993, the sales guy just hand me the key and tell me and my cousin "don't rush back, take it to Starbucks have some coffee". by then we don't even had Pcar, only BMW. when new Cayman came out, we even got a brand new red Cayman for a full-day test drive and free lunch... Find the dealer that want your business.

POST 8Original post

Which dealer on LI? I've always dealt with Silverstar/aka Roslyn porsche, never a hassle, good sales dept, great service. I recently testdrove a turbo there (for my brother in Houston) for an hour plus, solo, no hassle.

POST 9Original post

arrogant dealers.....f them....they need your business, not the other way around...there are so many dealers (even Porsche ones!) and independent...that there attitude is so ignorant! I was looking for a P...the guy came outside and ask me "want to take it for a spin?" I thought he would come...but ask me for my driver license...made a copy handed me my license back and the key....his last words: don't drive it to hard until the engine is warm. Maybe it helped that I came with my wife....but like always I looked like a manicured homeless person (3 day beard and holes in jeans, t-shirt...sneakers) and I know most people don't walk around like this.

POST 10Original post

I bought my 996 from a non-Porsche dealer. When I went for the test drive, after we got back he had me sign a waiver and then gave me the car for the weekend.

POST 11Original post

we called Porsche Zentrum Frankfurt on a Friday said we wanted a test drive in a 911. We were told to come in on Monday. We drove in behind the wheel of a *cherry* 1993 Renault Clio RN worth about $2000 max (and it was a great car; H. Ford would have been proud that *T* model sensibilities still is alive). We filled out insurance waivers and showed proof of being who we claimed to be, and they dropped the keys in our hands and told us to be back in an hour and please tank it up with super-high-test (fair enough). We tested three more cars 911's over the next week from the same dealer, 996 C4S Coupe, 996 Targa, 996S Coupe, 996 Cab (which was the one for us). Never any questions, plus good coffee and sweets, and a steamer trunk full of brochures. And they've been very good to us since the purchase. So find another dealer. And print out all the responses here and fax them to the jerk you talked to, and forward them to Porsche USofA as well as Porsche HQ....

POST 12Original post

The porsche dealer by me let me keep an 06 carrera overnight. That basically sealed the deal and I ended up buying my first Pcar a month later.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

oh i was already mentally gone. i just wanted to stick around to drive a car after a 40 min trip with my 9 year old. frankly these guys were way too smug especially while sitting with a fistful of new MSRP 997's on the floor. nice cars but wont fare well if markets keep taking a dump.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i'm looking for something a little more comfortable to replace my 2 cars , both of which have qualities i like a lot. price point is getting better too. i also tested e46 m3 but didnt like the smg. and..psst dont rat me out to the 993 board yet.

POST 15Original post

Not only would I dump the dealer, but I'd publically identify (and humiliate him) on this forum. Lots of these dealers peruse these pages; if you identify a particularly egregious sleazeball dealer with many potential Porsche customers reading the post, maybe you'll get the dealer to change their behavior. Just a thought. Phil G. '04 Atlas/Black C4S coupe

POST 16Original post

Please do let us know what dealers are good and others bad. I think it helps us reward the good dealers with our hard earned (albiet ill-gotten) gains. Good luck on your search.

POST 17Original post

First time my wife & I walked into Bluegrass Porsche of Louisville, Ky., I told them we were just looking. Girl behind desk got a salesman out to answer any questions we might of had, etc. He showed us around different vehicles and explained about 911's. (never had one before) Told him if we were to think about one, it would be a coupe. Only had one new coupe on the lot at the time, so he brought it front and center, gave us the keys and some directions for different roads (we live 3 hours away from dealership) said see you back in 30-45 minutes. Ending up buying this car. Great service and no hassles, except the salesman being concerned about our monthly payments. Told him I did not care about monthly payment amount but the bottom line cost of vehicle. I would think you could find a dealer who wanted your business and each customer has a right to expect being treated well, even if they are "just looking."

POST 18Original post

I've had poor service from my local P dealer also. When I was looking I went to the dealer twice, never a test drive - pretty much just looked at me like show us your money and then you can test drive. Like they are doing me the favor! Which is why I ended up buying mine from a third party. I hear the P dealer in Bend is really cool, and when I go for a new one I'll definately visit them.

POST 19Original post

We need to name names in the forums. Bad dealers need to be boycotted.

POST 20Original post

This is a great idea only sometimes it's not the whole dealership, but a couple of lousy sales people. Still think we should create a list to flag inept stealers.

POST 22Original post

As Ronald Reagin said, "vote with your feet", I always follow that philosphy, puts me in the right frame of mind.

POST 23Original post

I have had the same treatment! A few years ago I went to a BMW dealer to purchase a 330xi. My intention was to buy it out right. So I walk up to the door no one would wait on me and my wife. Then this asian kid comes in with his girlfriend (dressed like hippies) and they rush over and ask him if he would be interested in taking a new 7series for a drive! I waited for 15-20mins. Finanly a old guy comes up to me and ask me if I have been helped. I said no he said you know these cars are EXPENSIVE! I was like well I really don't like the local support guess I am buying a AUDI. So I left there went to the Audi dealer bought a 2004 A4 and a 2000 A4 that day paid cash. I hope I am not treated this way when I start looking to buy my first P car. BTW my Audi sales guy is awesome! It's Byers Import in Columbus, Ohio. They sell Porsches just way over priced. Plus I have not seen any used turbos on their lot. POST 24Original post

. As a former Long Islander, it sounds like he had the classic Long Island "chip" on his shoulder!

POST 25Original post

Reading this thread this morning gave me an idea - I stopped by a local BMW dealership recently, dressed in baggy jeans and a t-**** (though I do think it had Google logos emblazoned on it, which I'd think would attract some attention from someone in sales..). I got nothing. I wandered around the showroom. Walked by all the desks (they were in sort of a horseshoe configuration. No one said anything. Not even the receptionist. I looked very intently at some of the M3s and used M5s right up against the windows. Nothing. Maybe they figured I didn't want to be bothered unless I asked for help? I parked around the corner, so I don't think any of them saw the 996. I've got a shirt with buttons and a belt on today, so maybe I should try the same experiment I wonder if it's related to my age, though, as even though I'm 23, I look a pretty young 23... especially now that I'm losing some weight again. My dad has worked at and owned car dealerships for many, many years. Mainly Porsche/Audi, though he's with Ferrari at the moment. He always told me he was very careful not to think about how people were dressed - that the people buying the 911 Turbos and GT2s and now, I'm sure, the Enzos are the ones coming with t-shirts and jeans on. Not that us C2 owners dressed up or anything, but he said someone new to the business might be stuck with some pre-conceptions about expensive clothing being linked to expensive cars. Justin

POST 27Original post

Newport Auto. Worst dealership around. Went to McKenna and was treated like you would expect a Porsche dealership to. Didn't even have to ask/pay for a loaner or anything. Had it all ready for me. Ask for Domenic in service. Very helpfull.

POST 28Original post

Okay my contrib... Carlsen in PA, CA. Guess I didn't have the obligatory "wads of $100's" coming out of my pockets. I hear the have good wrenches but I couldn't tolerate their attitudes. Their attitudes were repeated over several visits when they had cars I wanted to check out so I don't think it was just one lousy salesperson.

POST 29Original post

When you read through this thread, notice how many times the person who got the extended test drive and/or was allowed to keep it overnight bought the car. Any dealership who's still trying to play the "agree to buy it for x then we'll let you drive it" game should take notice.

POST 30Original post

Porsche of Lexington has been great to me. Good bunch of guys and great service department. I'm fairly young (26), so many dealers might be hesitant about me test driving their cars but everyone at this dealer was helpful. I remember the owner asking if I was interested in a Carrera GT... I laughed and said "I wish". I was impressed that he would even ask that considering most dealerships would've basically laughed at me if I showed interest in a $400,000 car.
