Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace fpr' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuel trims' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Would do a smoke test and/or check the fuel trims.

Also agree with checking for leaks/smoke testing the entire intake system.

Read our the computer and check the lkat/rkat values, these indicate to what extent The car is compensating the fuel mixture at idle/longer term.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2002 911 Cab, 56k miles. While out driving with the AC on, when I come to a stop at a traffic light, my engine seems to have difficulty finding a consistent idle. It bounces from about 600 up to 900, then back to 600, and so forth. Eventually, it will smooth out at 600 and idle just fine. What seems to start the hunting is when it is idling, it suddenly drops like it is going to die, but catches itself and jumps up to say, 900. Then the bouncing up and down starts. Any ideas? FYI, it is very hot outside, ambient temps are near 100 F. Thanks.
Read our the computer and check the lkat/rkat values, these indicate to what extent The car is compensating the fuel mixture at idle/longer term. If there's an air leak or some other problem with the fuel system these are either too rich or lean.

Do you have a cable throttle body? If so, check out threads on how to clean the ICV (idle control valve). If you have a drive-by-wire throttle body, do a calibration of your throttle body. Also agree with checking for leaks/smoke testing the entire intake system. Check for vacuum leaks. Check your oil filler tube for breaks.
I had a fuel pressure regulator that was leaking internally and that was throwing off fuel trim which was causing an unsteady idle.
Replacing the FPR fixed it.
I Could test by removing the vacuum line at the attachment point and detecting fuel (it was wet).
Thanks for all of the replies, they give me a direction to diagnose. I should mention that this idling behavior really only happens when I have the AC on. With the climate control off, it idles nicely at about 900 rpm.
I'm thinking that with the added load of the AC compressor at idle, the fuel pressure might be insufficient to keep the idle steady.
I'm an Arizona snowbird and will be putting the car in storage for the summer soon. I will have to wait until next fall to investigate this idle issue fully.
