So, I'm writing up my story so far on towing my 996 to HPDE days. Interested in any comments or experience you guys have. I know there's a bunch of stuff in forums but thats the problem, it's all over the place, hence this wiki page to consolidate 'best practises'. http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Towing_a_Porsche_996 Thanks Billy

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Billy, Good write up. A couple of points. First, you don't want to cross the front tie down straps with the Autometrics tie down loops you have. The front ones are very strong when pulled straight but will bend if you pull them to the side. Ask me how I know? On back you can pull them either straight back or to the side. Which is better? Beats me. I strapped both ends straight for years and now strap the front straight and the back crossed. Either way the cars not going anywhere. Ill email you the name of a local guy that has a tongue scale. Its much cheaper to buy him a beer than to buy your own and you really only need it once. It works great but youre probably right about just putting the car way forward. When I had an open trailer I bolted a 12 inch long 1x6 to the deck as a tire stop once I know where to put the car. It worked great. You might want to look for a steel box to mount on your hitch to store wheel chucks, locks, jacks, etc. I noticed you dont have a spare on the trailer. Maybe it was added later but you dont want to get caught without one. You might want to add a section on stupid trailer tricks. I think we all have a story or two. Again, nice write-up. Jim
