I don't use regular tire places anymore (around here nobody knows how to change a tire without damaging the rim or they just don't care) but when I did, not once were my tires filled properly.

i recommend that you watch them put your lug bolts on as they will sometimes use the impact wrench w/o hand guiding in the lugs which can lead to a stripped hub...

I presume they'll just use their standard lift to get the car off the ground, rather than jacks/jack stands.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I plan to take my car over to NTB to get my new front tires mounted/balanced. I presume they'll just use their standard lift to get the car off the ground, rather than jacks/jack stands. My question is, can the 15 year old they have working there damage anything with the lift? I know the appropriate way to lift with the jack, but Is there anything 'special' that needs to be done putting these cars on the rack? Normally I don't even think about this, but with a shop that isn't working exclusively on P-cars...I want to be able to tell them the right place to lift from if they don't know. Or is it pretty straight forward-as with anycare?

POST 2Original post

Just make sure they only use the front and rear jacking points and that they torque the wheels to 130 Nm (96 ft-lbs). The torque specification is for a lubricated fastener, " Thinly grease thread, shank and under head (between screw head bearing surface and spherical cap ring) of the wheel bolts with Optimoly TA (aluminum paste). Do not grease bearing surface of the spherical cap facing the wheel. If heavily contaminated, clean bolts first with a lint-free cloth. " Also make sure they don't use the air pressure specification on the tire. I don't use regular tire places anymore (around here nobody knows how to change a tire without damaging the rim or they just don't care) but when I did, not once were my tires filled properly. Every single time the tire was severely over-inflated.

POST 4Original post

also, if they are only working on the front, they can simply just jack the front enough to get the tires off of the ground. There is no need to jack the entire car. As a side note, make sure that when they balance the wheels that they balance both sides of the wheel and not place the weight on the outside of the rim. Steve

i recommend that you watch them put your lug bolts on as they will sometimes use the impact wrench w/o hand guiding in the lugs which can lead to a stripped hub... not good.
