Maybe it needs more time to learn/adjust but damn, it's a computer, how much time does it need.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust but damn' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust but damn' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone have the new Evo air intake - they claim 12 HP, I am very skeptical - anyone have an experience with this unit yet?????
Any thoughts?? Looks like a nice unit - but the HP and TRQ claim is hard to believe. I might just buy it for the looks and if it performs - BONUS.
I have the EVO intake and I wrote a lot in detail in a thread about 2 months ago that you can search for. To sum it up though. 12 hp may be there but the sound it adds is pretty good. I like it a lot.
I run it and works well. Do a search for VividRacing username and then EVO VFLOW. I have gone over alot with customers and there has been about a 70% positive rate. We have them instock or I can answer some questions you may have by phone. Like I said, I run it in my 00 and I love it.

We've done a good few dynos with the flash and intake and obviously put a lot of these on in California... Not only does it perform but it sounds pretty cool up top
A guy here actually lost hp with it, my-my 30% dissatisfaction rate, what's up with that Dan?
I don't think they add much other than intake noise, throttle response.
That is my exact worry - I was told by a porsche master mechanic that most of these intakes rob HP and he was laughing at me for even thinking that the intake will make HP - he seemed to think that the porsche engine is a very strict mechanism and that any deviation in the variables throws the system off. I am very confused on this issue ????
It's interesting to see that same exact statements come from my old Nissan forum and now Porsche. The best ways to tell are having even more dyno's done or just get two tiptronic 996's (stock vs EVO) on a 1/4 track, which is appearantly taboo around here, on the exact same day
I think all engines, the m96 included have some room for hp with intakes and exhaust, intake manifolds that is, not air cleaners. The porsche m96 is already operating at 90% VE, very tough to squeeze more out of it without major mods ( the x51 includes cylinderr heads, cams, oiling kit, intake manifold etc and 'only' adds 25hp, there just ain't that much left. If it was that easy the porsche engineers would have slapped on an air filter instead of the x51. This is why the gains are minimal on a m96 3.6, while a 350 chevy(60%VE) has tremendous gains from minor mods.
Volumetric Efficiency, essentially how good the engine is at making hp given an x amount of fuel, aka hp/litre, the m96 is at nearly 90- 100 hp/l already. A 5.7l chevy would be making almost 600 hp at the same VE.
Not to cofuse the air filter issue - I was told the same thing re: chipping the 3.6L 996. Anyone every drive the new M3?? and push the sport button while driving - it feels like you added 30HP by the push of a button when you really added nothing - it just remaps the air/fuel curve (from what I was told) felt a lot faster but in reality not faster at all.
Yep, just advance the timing a little and instant SOP feeling, it's an old trick. I'm with Chris, there's not much to be had IMO from an airbox unless it's combined with other upgrades...maybe. The stock airbox already flows more air than the engine can use. Unless one of the tuners can produce some real engine dyno numbers instead of the chassis stuff then it's anecdotal at best. With all the R&D and advertising I'm really surprised no tuner has strapped a "modded" engine on a real dyno and shown the numbers. I mean it's not that expensive, I think we used to pay $300 a day for our race engines on the dyno back in the "Day", right Chris.
250$/day on the dyno if I'm not mistaken, plus beer for the crew. Funny we use to dyno brand new racing engines, breakin was about 6 seconds, then 8000rpm's.
That's funny, but isn't that what we want to see and should expect on a dyno chart, well a shift upward?
My only problem with the EVO's V flow is, am I really getting cooler air? The rest about whether it works or not doesn't really bother me much since I've seen Bolt on's and ECU remaps work on Nissan VQ engines which are pretty much already maxed. I was a nay sayer until I went head to head vs stock VQ's on the 1/4 and on Dyno.
Now what I can say about ECU remaps is that they seem to work better on non-manual transmissions, which is useless to me since I'm driving a 6speed now.
I can say, in regard to my 996, that I do not really feel a difference in power with the GIAC and Intake certainly not a 20hp difference. Maybe it needs more time to learn/adjust but damn, it's a computer, how much time does it need.
okay enough with a the technical stuff....does the sound get better?? I have a 99/996 cab TIP and I like the deep sound, but I would like it to be just a little louder, more raspy mayby....but i don't want to spend 1K for an new exhaust system
So if the cold air intake make my car sound a little (but notecable) better I'll buy one
If you have an aftermarket exhaust and put on one of the cold air intakes, is it recommended to GAIC chip the car as well in order to account for the freer flowing intake and exhaust? (This is assuming that the intake does something).
i have one
it sounds great
dont know about the hp claims but it sure sounds excellent
my buddy who has an older air cooled 911 says it reminds him more of the air cooled engine sound.
hell yes it does sound better! that's one of the things i missed after i had the supercharger installed. it doesn't roar but it let's a WAIL at high rpms. kinda like f1
. i think you'll need to do the exhaust if you want a deep roar. look in the classifieds or on ebay for steals/deals.
Karlooz is correct.. most of the power on the 3.4s and 3.6s is from the intake flash and headers. The sound doesn't change much at all with the headers... Pick an exhaust that you like but do it for the purpose of sound
I did; put on the Ruf mufflers 2 weeks ago. I am in love. Absurd as it may sound, I've been driving around without the radio ever since. My girlfriend thinks I'm possessed, ah I mean, obsessed. Hmmm....I probably am. I'll try to get some audio clips up soon; had some tech difficulties last weekend (read, forgot my camera).
