I didn’t notice, however, that when I went to drive the car after it set for a while after being washed, I released the emergency break put it in gear and the car wouldn’t go forward, like the E brake was stil engaged.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

I tried accelerating a little harder and then there was kind of a loud pop in the rear and then in the car moved forward freely with no more noise.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good afternoon, can anyone identify this sound? It just started this evening and only happens while accelerating, more noticeable between 2000 and 3000 RPMs, when I press the clutch in and rev the noise is not present, it only happens when in gear. the only thing I did to the vehicle this afternoon was wash it. I didn’t notice, however, that when I went to drive the car after it set for a while after being washed, I released the emergency break put it in gear and the car wouldn’t go forward, like the E brake was stil engaged. I tried accelerating a little harder and then there was kind of a loud pop in the rear and then in the car moved forward freely with no more noise. the noise was slightly concerning, but since the car was moving fine, and there was no further noise I figured everything was OK. I drove home, approximately 25 miles and those the sound when driving through my neighborhood. Thanks in advance for your help.

That's your brake pads sticking to the rotors. Very normal after a car wash. That's why after I wash the car I go for at least a drive around the block applying the brakes.

Ok cool, what about the sound while accelerating in gear? Do you think its related?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Another sound clip from this morning, it does sound like it’s happening in all gears. It’s just very hard to hear in the higher gears from the engine noise drowning it out.

POST 5Original post

Does the noise change if you manipulate the e-brake while rolling? I've had the e-brake springs (or other bits sometimes) break free and scrape around inside the hub, which causes a similar metal-on-metal noise.

I will try to manipulate the E break when I drive it this afternoon. But if something was rubbing on the wheels or the hub wouldnt make the noise all the time not just during acceleration?

POST 7Original post

Maybe? I had a loose spring bouncing around inside the hub, which made the noise inconsistent. More noticeable at slow speeds / acceleration though.

OK, cool Ill give it a try and let you know. Thanks again.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good morning, so manipulating the E brake made no change in the sound. But I did notice a couple things this morning coming into work. I’ve noticed the sound is very faint only in first gear until the Car warms up a bit, I also noticed that if I go through the gears easy, it doesn’t make the sound. For example, I takeoff in first gear nice and easy it rattles just a bit right at first with the initial press of the gas pedal, and then not again unless I Accelerate harder. So I don’t know how much suspension moves in these vehicles in the rear, but maybe there’s a bushing that could be causing this, and it doesn’t start to make noise until the body has moved around a bit from being driven?
