I dunno, or care about their shipping practices, one of the local speed shops had a set a customer got off ebay last week.

I was gonna get a set until I had them in my hands.

Evo clearly uses the Fabspeed muffler for their applications (as stated on their site), and the descriptions of the headers are identical.

I'm gonna do a whole bunch of before/after testing using a g timer to est hp, once you get all the data entered it's fairly accurate, just don't want to put my awd on a dyno.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just got my fabs from fedex. The quality on these German made headers is phenominal. They weigh 22#, 11 each, unlike the zerteks that weigh 5 each. They are very sturdy and heavy feeling, the finish work is awsome. All welds are smooth, the merge collectors are out of this world, all inlets/oulets(internally) are polished, the tubes are mandrel bent, no welded seams mid tube like the suncoast.
All in all these are first rate and I highly recommend them, I will post some pre/post data this weekend, stay tuned. No connection, just a happy customer. Call Joe for a Rennlister deal.
Ahem a bit over 6Lbs for the Ztek... Stock are around 7Lbs. The inside of the outlet and inlet look identical to the Ztek. I would not knock the Ztek especially if you have not seen them in person. On top of that they are half the price. I guess if you pay more $$$ It has to be better!
ya, i deleted my post. i am mistaken, the FVD ones are not like the fabspeeds. the fabspeed collectors look a lot nicer. i guess they all just use the same pictures. maybe the fabs have been reworked or they are a newer version.

evo's pic
FVD's pic
ya, my collectors aren't as nice
Actually I have seen them(zertek) in person, didn't care for them, seemed cheap. Call Joe, he will get you a very competitive price, you'd cry if you knew the deal I got.( nowhere near twice the price)
Karloos, I think thay all just copied fabspeed.
Wow you must have seen one of the first sets. Since they have only shipped a handful of sets, they did not anticipate the demand. Who's Ztek headers did you see? I have seen lots of headers good and bad I guess we will have to disagree on this one. Believe me I have a very high expectation of quality and they would have gone right back if they sucked next day. The vendor was aware of this. All that is important is that you are happy with your purchase.
I dunno, or care about their shipping practices, one of the local speed shops had a set a customer got off ebay last week. I was gonna get a set until I had them in my hands. I'm sure they're great, but 1/2 the steel can't be a good thing. Esp at a very similar price.
Surgeon,
Does using the Fabspeed headers make the car a heck of a lot louder? I like the idea of going with their design and build quality, which I agree is phenomenal. However, I am worried that on top of my aftermarket mufflers, it'll be just way too loud. And I don't mean pleasant loud, I mean more loud like race-bike loud. Thanks.
I'll let you know this weekend.
I'm gonna do a whole bunch of before/after testing using a g timer to est hp, once you get all the data entered it's fairly accurate, just don't want to put my awd on a dyno. I'll also be testing the evo airbox, and a chip. Stay tuned.
Interesting about the Ruf sc, since you brought it up, Ruf in Germany actually finances cars and mods, they may start doing the same in the usa. But I think my car has too many miles to stress the bottom end with a sc.
Whats too many miles? I called RUF USA about my car (37k miles, 1999) and he thought it was ok. But, it sounded like I'd need a new engine every X miles but can't remember X

hmm.... i don't think everyone copied fabspeed but rather everyone bought from the same german manufacturer. your fabspeeds look totally differnt from their web pic. they must have bought the same ones but now have develped their own.
The giac(sp) chip I think
Mine has 43k, they do reduce the CR but I'm concerned about the added stress, (at least they warranty your engine though), but not as much as I would with an evo.
you should check out the
6speed thread
regarding the Ruf SC. they posted that they dynoed it yet didn't want to show anyone the results. you were instructed to call some dude if you wanted the figures. pretty LAME. they said north of 400 but may not even be reproducable.
Yeah, I saw that, can't imagine why they wouldn't publicize the data, seemed weird. I'd be concerned with either charger, just a little less with the Ruf bc of the warranty. When I called them they said 43k would probably be ok( althouigh the German Ruf website said that with >40k you will require a motor rebuild), but they couldn't tell for sure until they took the heads off. Sounds like you could end up with one whopping bill!
get the RUf SC! it's only money right?
you can be the first on the boards w/ the Ruf SC. we could all get together for a supercharger shootout
the TT guys can't have all the fun
From what I have seen and read, it appears Fabspeeds are the way to go. They have excellent build quality, good performance, made in Germany. 'Nuff said. Can't wait to get a set
.
Doug, it is great. You weren't kidding when you said it would add to the experience of driving. What really got me is how much louder the exhaust is when standing behind the car (when the valet went to park it). Whoa! It sounded awesome. Not as full throttle as the rip-roaring Fabs, but enough to get me smiling without raising the NYPD's eyebrows.
I'm planning on driving the heck out of it this weekend (forecast calls for 50s here in the city) and then taking some photos and posting some audio clips for you guys to hear. I figured since you guys were so great at posting audio files that helped with my decision, it's the least I could do for the next guy. BUT, a big thanks to You for all your help with the process!
Meanwhile, I can't wait to read Chris' thoughts on these headers after his installation this weekend. Man, they are superb looking. I'm already looking forward to my next mod...and they might be it.
C4s surgeon, were you one of the guys giving me crap about my mods and how they didn't add up to anything............................ Jim B and a couple other dick wads if I remember right. You guys jumped my back about using the owners manual as a weight estimate too. Now you're quoting your g sensor and making claims about competive products, go figure................
Dallas....looks like you are at it once again. Using direct attacks, language, and hostility to try and get your point across. You really need to go back and re-read your thread (and your posts) before you start calling out somebody like Chris (whom is well respected here) with names and throwing out accusations.
Check out this thread started by you about your mods in which you say "C4s Surgeon, spoken like an adult, thank you.":

Sounds to me like he was acutally very polite to you while others were actually trying to explain to you that your mods didn't add up the way you thought nor the weight you thought your car was, was actually acurate.
Congrats!
Now, Chris, the million dollar question: did it have a noticeable impact on the sound of your exhaust (i.e. louder or the same, throatier or raspier, etc)?
(I figure the billion dollar question is any performance gains and I'll leave that to your full write-up later on.)

Just to get back to something Carlos raised, I think the headers are the SAME. Evo clearly uses the Fabspeed muffler for their applications (as stated on their site), and the descriptions of the headers are identical. Hence, it's likely why the pictures are the same.
