Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

In another mag I have, Walther Rohr (sp?), Porsche's chief test driver, was recommending 18's instead of 19's on the Cayman for a "more sporting" drive.

And Tod has a good point about repair (God forbid)

Nice, in the end they may be even cheaper since it's possible to have them repaired instead of buying a complete new rim if damaged.

Plus, something about the three screws in between each support bothers me, like it would have been better if the screws ran the entire circumference of the wheel.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

They look great!, but make sure every clears in front. I've seen some posts about rubbing with 8.5 in front, if you go above 225 tires, but no direct knowledge
Like I said on 6speed, I think they are very different than your run of hte mill rims (HRE, BBS, iForged, etc.) and will look great on the C2. Especially with the aero kit
Any pics with them on a 996? I like them because they're different than your HRE's or BBS, but not sure how they would look.
You know, you really take a risk asking opinions BEFORE you put them on. If they float your boat, stick them on, post pics, and tell us to shove our opinions where the sun don't shine...
Too much wave, like it belongs on a hot rod. Plus, something about the three screws in between each support bothers me, like it would have been better if the screws ran the entire circumference of the wheel.
I don't like them, they remind me of the SL500 wheels. I am more into HRE and iForged. But to each their own. Would get a better perspective if they was a pic on the car.
It is much easier to give an opinion now that we can see a picture with the rims on the car. You mention the price is right, if price did not matter, would you still pick these rims?
Chris:
Good point. The rims I would pick are very similar in style. I like the RH Design Turbo-P which has a similar style. A little smoother so to speak but still a twist design with the lip etc. Yet 2x the cost
Nice, in the end they may be even cheaper since it's possible to have them repaired instead of buying a complete new rim if damaged. (Made of three parts)
For $1300 shipped it is a steal for those 18's but if you can throw some more mulah into what you have, you should definitely get some other wheels. These wheels look ok but a little too bulky looking for the 996 lines, IMO. Try looking into another set, I've seen some nice looking wheels on ebay for a reasonable price. Check the link below, theres some nice wheels in your price range. Goodluck Tim.

I am thinking the same exact thing... I think I may have to retract my original comment. I think it is the finish of the wheel and the swirls in between the spokes that is throwing me off now. Also, the above pic is not lowered, does not have any aero kit and is a convertible, so it's not exactly the best comparison to Tim's car.
But in the end, if you like them, then that's all that matters, right? I think it is definitely different than the "norm"
They are 19's actually.
And Jon, I have to say that theya re floating my boat so to speak. I have made pretty decent choices in the past and once I saw them on the car I like to potential. My car is loweres and has the aero kit as you pointed out. And Tod has a good point about repair (God forbid)
I am thinking on it a bit more. I also found a set of Champions on EBay that are bent up a bit and need rear tires for 1995. And although I like the look there are quite a few 996's with Champions out there (let alone the cost to fix is around 400 and new tires for the rear are 400 a pop).
These are unique without being stupid about it.
How much do they weigh? They look like they'll slow you down.
Also, Ruf, 9ff, Porsche, and other big tuners - do not put 19" wheels on the 996. I was reading this in Excellence magazine, and those tuners specifically stay away from 19's on 996's- despite the bling- for a reason.
They were saying that the 996 suspension simply wasn't designed for these huge wheels, and in fact, part of the 997's (re)design of the suspension was made specically to allow for 19" wheels. In another mag I have, Walther Rohr (sp?), Porsche's chief test driver, was recommending 18's instead of 19's on the Cayman for a "more sporting" drive. With 19's, you're ride will be more uncomfortable, louder, your acceleration will be slower, hard cornering on anything less than perfect roads will be a little iffy as each bump throws you off line slightly, worse gas mileage, etc... But hey, you'll be blinging!
Good information....That is pretty persuasive info. I suppose now the question is: How often does Tim drive his car and where. Is this car a daily driver? Or is just taken out once a month for an hour or so, or is it only for the track?
When it comes down to it though, he may not even care too much about any of that. It's still a Porsche, and will still outperform 99% of the cars out there, but I think it's something to keep in mind in case he hasn't thought of it before.
In the end, it comes down to if the owner likes it or not, and that's all that matters.
I don't track my car. The suspension will be altered and the car lowered. Personally I am doing it for looks. If I wanted performance I would find a set of 17's.
In my opinion part of the experience of owning a PCar is enjoying the looks of the car. You know, when you park and walk away yet turn around to look at the car and say to yourself, "Cool looking car, and its Mine". And although this edges into another whole can of worms, this is the reason I just can't warm up to the new BMW line. I have had 18 BMW's and just cannot warm up to the new "style". No real curb appeal to me. But I digress...........
PS: I equate "Bling" to a Escalade with 23in spinnas
Hey I'm not Anti-Bling
I'm just Anti-Overly-Heavy Wheels.
Believe me- I will have some new rims that will scream "Bling BLANG" anytime I look at them.. but they won't weight a whole lot. I'm probably going to get some nice BBS's.
I know what he was saying, also, about looking back at your car after you parked it and saying "yeah, that's my car right there sucka!" I do it all the time, even with my little 17's.
I look forward to doing that with some sweet 18's soon..
Tim,
I agree with your reasons for buying new wheels and if it is for visual pleasure than the facts of performance do not come into play.
But that said, I don't like the first choice.. They just look cheap to me, something you aould buy in one of those cheap tire dealers and not for a 996... Your RH choice look much better and IMHO would be a better choice.
But hey, it's your car and your cash...
