Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So a friend of mine finally decides to clean the air filter in his 996 (1999 C2). While he's cleaning it a metal screen that was attached to the inside comes out so now he wants to replace it with a new filter. He sent me the attached picture to see if I could help him identify it. The metal screen was inside the neck of the filter where it would attach to the intake tube. He said the filter is about 3.5" across the inside of the neck where it would attach to the intake tube and about 5.25" diameter on the outside. He also said it's a cylinder - not a cone. I hit the usual performance parts vendors but couldn't really find anything that matched. Anyone know what this filter is, who makes it, or where he could find a replacement? I told him to put in a EVO intake but he doesn't want to spend the cash on it.

POST 3Original post

In most cars there is a screen like that near the MAF. If that isn't the stock screen he can just put the conical filter back on without it.
