Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

What I was hoping was a plastic grocery bag, throw pillow or anything soft (wishful thinking,I know), turned out to be a rock.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, Was driving on the 95 Southbound today. Surrounded by traffic, bumper to bumper, doing about 50mph. I see this object in the road in front of me. Look to the left, right and behind...No place to go! What I was hoping was a plastic grocery bag, throw pillow or anything soft (wishful thinking,I know), turned out to be a rock. It hits the underside of my car with an incredible amount of force. I was able to slow to about 45 without getting rear-ended. Took the car to the dealer. He says it damaged/dented the trunk pan, broke some of the plastic under the car and damaged some metal hoses. Gotta get it fixed right away! Took the car to an independent who works on BMW,Mercedes,Porsche and Ferrari. He put it on the hoist and said, although it did some damage to the trunk pan and broke some plastic, he saw no damage to the engine or hoses. He also noticed an oil leak on the drivers side manifold. Dealer said that this was probably caused by the rock hit. (Independent says the rock doesn't look like it hit the engine). This is a new engine I had put in 3 months ago. My question is: Dealer says get it fixed, don't drive....Independent says its o.k. to drive, just keep an eye on it. What would you do? Thanks for all the advice. You guys are great!

POST 2Original post

I'd take the car back to the dealer and ask them to point out exactly what hoses need to be replaced, etc.
