Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was told that all 996 C4S' came with a built in exhaust sound boosting system (or whatever it's called) and that there should be a switch for this on the dashboard under neath the PSM button. Now, I don't seem to have this in my car, and was wondering if this was an optional extra after all on the C4s? I even "read" about it in a French 911 magazine "Flat 6 magazine, No 263, Jan 2013 page 73" (my French is brutal btw) and saw this button in an article about the C4S from 2002 onwards. Is this something one can have added afterwards as sound is everything (or pretty close anyway)...

POST 2Original post

The Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) was an option for the C4S, not a standard feature. Early 996 C4S models didn't have a switch on the dash, even if they were optioned with PSE. Later models did. PSE has valves that open and close at preset speeds to conform to European noise regulations. You can add PSE to a 996, but it is very expensive. It's probably a better choice to add an aftermarket exhaust system to improve the sound of your exhaust. There are systems with a valve and switch to control noise levels if you are interested in this feature.

Thanks for your reply Dennis... Highly appreciated indeed...

POST 4Original post

I have to admit I haven't heard an aftermarket exhaust that I liked better than PSE. I am running 200 cell cats with PSE and absolutely love it!

POST 5Original post

the PSE is sweet, but Porsche started pricing the parts in the stratosphere a few years ago. Try to find a used system or salvaged.
