Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

(Recently started leaking at #2 so replaced all spark tubes and seals.) I've tried to find out more but have been unable to and there is no records on when the engine was replaced.
Leading evidence: 'Replace spark tubes and seals.) i've tried' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean engine runs great -- dynoed strong' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. No issues with it now, PPI was clean, engine runs great -- dynoed strong for the age.

I would suspect that the engine was replaced after July 2001.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have tracked down a few shops that worked on the car over the years, trying to determine when it was replaced.
Is there anyway to determine the date an engine was remanufactured by the serial number ? I have tracked down a few shops that worked on the car over the years, trying to determine when it was replaced. All shops I called claimed "privacy" issues and they would not tell me anything. I noted there was some work completed by an aftermarket warranty company called Warrantech 2003 / 2004. I suspect this is the time, but I would really like to know the mileage on the replacement engine. No issues with it now, PPI was clean, engine runs great -- dynoed strong for the age.
I understand that the serial number may not tell me when it was installed, but it would at least give me a starting point.

Any ideas . Thanks in advance !
I have a 99 with what I think is a remanufactured engine also. Serial # AT66X65750 in my 1999 996. The car has 126K on it and runs like a top. And zero oil leaks. (Recently started leaking at #2 so replaced all spark tubes and seals.) I've tried to find out more but have been unable to and there is no records on when the engine was replaced. 996_North what is the build date on your car? mine is 03/98 serial #1614.
Anyone know more about these remanufactured engines? Would love to know more.
Thanks Maurice, that was helpful.
M9601 = 3.4 L
66 = Engine type (6 cylinder)
X = model year 99
65297 = serial
So I can assume it is a remanufactured 99 engine. According to the service records, the car had a major service at Beechmont Porsche in OH in July 2001 (with 32K Miles !). Car was delivered June 1998. I would suspect that the engine was replaced after July 2001. Odometer shows 79K miles now, which would make the engine, at most, 47K miles. Could be good or bad news. Thanks.

Main Vin # sticker should be below B piller, on body side of car, below door latch to body. Odd that you wouldn't have one, Car been repainted?
Stephen B!
"As a point of reference 3.4 AT motor serial 65993 build date was 11/2004"
Great info, but can you give me some background as to how you know that? Just trying to have some reference. Thanks!
Thanks StephenB!
That really helps, since my motor was just 243 before yours. At the rate these engines were failing in the early 99 996's mine was probably built sometine in 2004. Since I have some dealer services performed in that time frame it gives me an idea of the true mileage on the engine. I'll have to call the dealer ans see if I can find out anything.
Anyone else have any info on these factory rebuit engines?
I call the service department of the dealer the previous owner used. They were very helpful and discussed all the work they had done on the car. We never discused the previous owner at all. All they asked for was the VIN.
The previous owner left the service invoices with the car and just cut off the section with his name, they were very helpful.
According to the "996 Essential Companion", factory rebuilt 3.4 NA engines maintain their original serial number..so I dont think we can use this as a benchmark, unfortunately. Great that you have evidence yours was done as recently as 2004 though
I'm still calling around to try to get my history.
