Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I am the owner of a 2004 996 4S. While driving in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears, I am experiencing a grinding/rattling metallic noise and RPM hunting (fluctuation) between 1,500 and 2,000 RPM. I have attached a video of the issue. Could this noise and these symptoms be related to the TCU adaptation problem mentioned in TSB 3701?

POST 2Original post

Ok, that is weird. Hope its an easy fix If you need a replacement transmission, I pulled a perfectly fine one out of my C4S when I did a manual swap.

I suspect he means the video files will not play. I can't play them either, but did not put in the effort that he seems to have.

Oh OK cool thanks....I didn't even try to watch them...most just post 2-5 seconds of video not enough to get a real idea of that is going on in varying circumstances. OP I would first of all check the Trans for Fault Codes, then drop the Trans Pan and look for metallic debris, if both of those show no clue then it could be the TSB... also you didn't give any background like if you just bought the car or if you just had some work on it or if it just started doing this out of the blue... all that Data is important in understanding/diagnosing a problem

BINGO! I did not know how long or what detail the posted videos were. I do have a Tip, so I am interested. I am having the Tip trans "serviced" with complete fluid & oil & filter changes so at least I am trying to be "pro-active" on "Tip Care". My C4S is not here at home, away for major surgery as another "pro-active" task. Thanks for interest. YMMV
