I'd be pretty pissed if they went ahead and took the liberty to repair anything and everything they felt a need to.
Leading evidence: 'Repair anything and everything they felt a need' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all-
I have a few quik questions:
For a manual 2004 C4S if a dealer is doing a transmission repair, while they are there anyway, would they typically do a RMS replacement too? Does this also cover the IMS or is that separate parts?
Realizing that nothing is ever foolproof, however, ould one assume that by this time, the replacment RMS & IMS from Porsche no longer suffered from the issues of the originals? I have read about the aftermarket parts from LN and certainly don't expect anything ike that from Porsche, but did they improve their RMS and IMS replacement parts design?
Thanks in advance for the help with the questions!
RMS is not related to the transmission, nor is the IMS. If these things were in need of attention, hopefully the tech would bring them to your attention and let you decide. I'd be pretty pissed if they went ahead and took the liberty to repair anything and everything they felt a need to. RMS has gone thru several updates, with each successive design better than the last, unsure about the IMS. The Mk l intermediate shaft bearing was too small and too often suffered premature failure, this was corrected in the Mkll and also factory replacement motors for the Mkl.
Nick, thanks for the prompt reply.
My bad, I didnt mean that they had just gone ahead and done it. I was asking since they were doing a clutch repair, would you have them do this too as a preventative?
Sorry for the poor wording of my question.
If it's leaking repair it. I'm on the fence as to the old rule "if it aint broke..."
But then again, look at the labor for removing the transmission. At least take a gamble on the RMS....
IMS I don't know. (<-----just replaced the IMS and still unsure if it was worth it.)
If the OPs car is under CPO, they will not install the LN IMS bearing. IF the RMS is not leaking at all, they will not touch it or replace it.
I would tell the service manager "if the rms is weeping at all, even a little bit, please replace it with the new updated seal and bolts.
