You sort of have to cut them if you want a clean straight connection to each individual +/- lead for the speakers.

When I first got mine I had become accustomed to satellite radio and replaced the factory unit with an alpine and then had a local place build a subwoofer box for the rear deck, install amp, etc.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I purchased this 2001 911 that had an aftermarket stereo installed by PO. The door speakers are not working. Ive done quite a bit of reading. Sounds like it might be an amp issue, Im not sure? Ive done lots of stereo installs in various vehicles, but I dont understand how this harnesses works, if someone has been through this before, any advice would be great, here are some pictures. I believe the blue connection is for the CD changer and some other items, But read it wasnt necessary to hook back up. Dont know what these fuses were cut in for?

POST 2Original post

First thing's first, do you plan on changing out the head unit, or do you just want to diagnose this issue and move on? If you just want the problem solved, you're going to have to first do some tracing. Is it the standard amp that came with the 911? That yellow cable that plugs into that larger red cable I believe is the cable for the phone hook up. I have one in mine, but it isn't hooked up cause I don't need / use it. If you can do without, remove that all together, it provides nothing. It looks as if they are going to an amp because they have RCA's going into the head unit, but again, need to know if it is the factory amp or not. I suspect it isn't, but hey, it very well could be. I have no clue what in the living hell is going on with that Frankenstein fuse holder, but it honestly scares the **** out of me lol. If I were you, I would start from scratch. It seems very likely that they patched this whole things together to get the full functionality of the head unit, but you have to determine what you really want. Radio? Gotta keep that feature / wiring Phone calls? Gotta keep that feature / wiring GPS (if it has that on it)? Gotta keep that feature / wiring BUT if all you care about is Bluetooth, and your phone can do the rest, that makes it a whole lot easier. Does that weird fuse holder beast splice off of anything, or is it going through the firewall on it's own and into the frunk? If so, I would start there and see what is going on. Very well could be some weird cuts form the original amp wiring, and they just terminated them in the worst way possible, but it is very hard to tell. I made a post these last few days about my head unit adventure, feel free to check it out. I just posted the audio system wiring specs and the new setup I just finished. Might help!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good morning, i will check on the fuse holder situation, buy initial investigation looks like they’re connected into the ome harness. In the frunk it looks like the ome amp, but dont think that’s working, because speakers sound like a 1940 sedan, and from what I’ve read else where is the reason the door speakers aren’t working. I plan on pulling this pos out in replace it with an alpine with CarPlay. I think I’ve pretty much made up my mind and I’m just going to buy an amp and all new speakers and bypass oem system entirely. the other interesting thing is there’s a green wire in the pic that comes out of the harness (leaving the firewall) and loops back into it(back towards the firewall)? Thanks for the help

yeah best to just start fresh. Take the amp out, and disc changer (if there) and cut away. Dont need the factory amp harness anymore. All twisted pair wires will be reused as those are the speaker wires, the others can be scraped. I have to check and see which ones I terminated as not needed. I believe there were 3 at the amp that I didnt need. Trace that green guy, but you likely wont need it. Im sure it was something dumb the last person did.

thats what I was planning on, though im not a big fan of cutting oem wire and harnesses, Ill prob just use some zip ties and tuck everything out of the way. I will use the existing speaker wires, though Ive always replaced with new larger wire in the past, i might skip that hassle this go around.

the harnesses dont matter anymore, especially when it come to going to the factor amp. You sort of have to cut them if you want a clean straight connection to each individual +/- lead for the speakers. Also unless you get a molex connector that mates with both the new head unit connector and the factory power cable, and at the correct points (ground > ground, pwr >) its best to also cut and join what is needed.

POST 8Original post

You have my sympathies. When I first got mine I had become accustomed to satellite radio and replaced the factory unit with an alpine and then had a local place build a subwoofer box for the rear deck, install amp, etc. so at this point I'd never want to tackle troubleshooting on it The additional bass from the sub made it tolerable but these are very noisy cars so when the head unit went kaput 12yr later... I never bothered to fix it and just left a blank panel in the space. Drove it for another decade or so and really didnt miss not having a radio at all. Obv YMMV and I wish you much success on this endeavor!
