My suspicion was 02 sensors because those have been replaced twice before as well.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

These felines have been replaced under the new car warranty before.
Well, 2 days ago, the CEL went on. My suspicion was 02 sensors because those have been replaced twice before as well.
The annoying thing is that while the car is under CPO for another month, the emissions warranty on the car (8/80) has run out as I have 80,909 miles!
Uggh.
I have a call into PCNA to see if they'll warranty the cats. It's kind of ridiculous to think that the car would go through that many catalytic converters so far. Upon searching it seems that the 996 is prone to this very issue (engine vibrations?).
The car has been serviced religiously (no fouled plugs at all ever) so I wonder what the cause of the failures really is.
BTW, will 99 3.4 felines fit the 03 3.6 engine?
I just bought a set of hi flow cats for my 99 996. I would be happy to sell mine for a great price if they will fit your car. They have about 36,000 miles on them.
Both of mine broke within 25k miles, and I know of two other people in Charlotte this has happened to. Of course, all three cars were tracked regularly and I wonder if that was a contributor. However, my old '87 was also tracked often over the course of several years and never had a cat problem. This has got to be a weak spot for 996s.
For those that don't know, if your cats go bad BEFORE 8 years/80K from your in service date, they should be covered for replacement by the dealer under federal emissions law. Assuming you haven't voided the warranty in some way (i.e., with upgrades to your exhaust). If you have a 2002+ vehichle, I would guess you are golden. I see that the OP has missed that deadline by a few miles...
As for me, I'm out of that time period, which is why I need a cheapo replacement.
