Car runs well, just passed smog, has a few mods, will need the clutch replaced soon (still on original clutch).

I do recall them pointing out that the 996 was the first 911 built using many of the recommendations of the Japanese consultants for reducing costs.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm looking for a 2002+ model. Should be in good mechanical condition. I would prefer white / silver / black / blue exterior and black interior.
I have a white 1996 993 C2, grey/blue interior, 93.5k miles, 3rd owner, all records from second owner until now (about 30k miles until now). Top end rebuild (replace valve guides) @ about 55K miles. Car runs well, just passed smog, has a few mods, will need the clutch replaced soon (still on original clutch). See photo in sig.
I'm just throwing this out to see if anyone is interested. If you're interested, PM or email me ([email removed]) and we can talk details, thanks!

lol...my dad has a 996 and I really like it...i'm not sure if the 993 is for me...i need something more of a daily driver and I feel bad putting miles on the 993. That and I like the 996 chassis better.
It's nice to hear that an 'air-cooled' Porsche owner would even consider owning a water pumper. So, there is hope afterall, what an open mind. GL with your search.
Yeah, I've had a good amount of seat time with a 996 and I have to say I like the modern feel it has over the classic feel the 993 gives off. There will definitely be things about the 993 I'm going to miss, sure, but I think ultimately a 996 suits me better.
And if I can get 2 for one, great!
Is it April 1st?
I had my 996 and '85 Targa at the same time...and after a bit of time, I found myself not driving the Targa...ever. While I miss it, I don't miss the crudeness at all...it's been over a year since I got rid of it to a pelican newbie (at the time). So, I see your point as well....my 996 is my DD....even in the snow...love love love it...although my kids are outgrowing it...might have to get rid of it for a bit and then p/u a turbo down the road....just don't want to swing having an extra car at this time...you know what I mean???
J
I fully understood the point YOU were making, and to be honest I feel almost the same way.... cept I have an old mill and IF this thing had any usable life in that motor set up, it could be a fair deal for someone willing to do one hell of a lot of work parting out the rest?
some one could make enough off the parts to maybe cover the $10k and end up with a free motor/tranny... again, IF they are any good after that hit..
Love your car, white is awesome on Porsches.....only to be shadowed by black of coarse
LOL j/k ya
My hand slipped and I entered this forum by mistake... sorry, but now I'll have to report you to our 993 brethren. There will be an intervention. Expect a knock on your door around midnight.
KraZy007, we have a program for you.
It's only for 30 days but you have to leave right now. All your family and friends are behind you.
During the 30 days you'll meet others that drive Lexus, Camrys and Ford Taurus with soft suspension, lots of plastic and "real" wood interior accents. You'll share your experiences with them, and drive on each others cars.
Please, take this opportunity so they can help you.
Jimmy,
I understand where you are coming from. I had a weak moment last month. I trust your search has TT in it
Hey 930man was looking to trade his GT3 for a 993. That's the move my friend! Remember it was the pic of your amazing 993 that got me back into the air cooled world. Best of luck in your search.
996's have cup holders???..........I want one!....a cup holder that is! :-)
Seriously though, my wife is a tall one, 5'10ish and she doesn't have enough leg room in the 993. I made the mistake of having her sit in a 996 and now she asking me to "trade up".....can you believe she thinks it's a trade up, just for more leg room and a cup holder?
Hey Al, it's always nice to hear from you. A GT3 would be a dream! Unfortunately, I'm really only looking for straight trades at the moment, so no TT.
I'm going to take my time here to find the right car...giving up a 993 is a serious affair, for sure!
It's interesting for all the uproar on the 993 twin of this thread about all of the reasons some believe the 993 is a better car that the OP can't find a single person willing to trade.
I love the 993, but honestly it's a pretty huge performance downgrade from the 996. It's considerably heavier, the chassis isn't even close to the stiffness of the 996 (just try jacking both front and rear wheels off the ground in both cars for an example of the huge advance made in the 996), and the 993 motor is way down on hp and torque. These reasons don't even count all the ride, handling, interior comfort and other reasons to prefer the 996.
I'm honestly not knocking the 993 as there is a lot to like about it over the 996. The engine has a more mechanical sound and feel, the doors close with a vault like thud, and I do get a feeling of nostalgia whenever I drive an older 911.
I'm just saying there is a lot to like about both generations and it's not surprising that both owner groups feel strongly about "their" car.
To the "OP' I'd advise you to sell your 993 and purchase your 996 in two separate transactions. That way you can get exactly the used 996 that you want and top $$ for your 993.
Good luck!!
Hey Jimmy, the good news is once you do sell the 993, you will have the ability score a sweet later model 996 for near nothing, thanks to the depression we are in.
The bad news is, we're in a depression!

I can vaguely recall reading an article in excellence magazine about a comparison between the 993 and 996. I do recall them pointing out that the 996 was the first 911 built using many of the recommendations of the Japanese consultants for reducing costs. The 993 cost Porsche much more to build than the 996. This was one of the reasons that Porsche was having severe financial difficulties in the 90s.
Having owned a 993 and driven a 996 on many occassions, I can readily agree with many of the pros and cons pointed out in previous posts. My only regret is that I sold my 993 too quickly. I just didn't forsee the nostalgia that many Porschefiles would have for the last air cooled 911, and the dramatic effect it would have on the 993 resale value. The guy who bought my 993 in 1999, sold it five years 28K miles later for the same price that he paid for it.
I think the two links I provided in the original post sum it up pretty well, the good/bad everything.

If you guys need more info after that, well, just ask what's on your mind. Thanks!
I'm always amazed at how much the 993 feels and sounds like an old 911 from the 80's! If you like Porsche history, you can't go wrong buying one of these classics.
Like Jimmy, I love the modernness of the 996, coming from a 944s2 that had all the Porsche "charm" I could stand.
Good luck with the sale!
