(note: oil was just changed, and the cooling system appears to be working well with no leaks, expansion tank and cap are new and i just cleaned the rads).

Once I get back into clean air and up to speed it will cool back down the pressure will return to 4.0 bar after about 10 minutes.

It has been unseasonably hot here recently (at least for Ottawa in July) with daily temperatures between 90F and 100F and high humidity. I have been driving the car a fair amount and have noticed a couple things that I think are normal, but want to confirm. I get solid 3.8 to 4 bars of oil pressure at 2,700 rpm on the highway with the engine at 82C to 85C while traveling at 70 mph. However, if I get into traffic at around 50 mph or urban driving the temperature will climb to 94C to 97C (or higher) and the oil pressure drops to about 2.9 to 3 bar at the 2700 rpm. I am running Total Quartz 9000 5W40. Once I get back into clean air and up to speed it will cool back down the pressure will return to 4.0 bar after about 10 minutes. I don't fall below 1 bar at idle and do not get any warning lights. Does this sound normal? (note: oil was just changed, and the cooling system appears to be working well with no leaks, expansion tank and cap are new and i just cleaned the rads).

yes. hotter oil is thinner. thinner oil creates less pressure.

Noticing the same this summer... don't remember it from last. Got so bad the low oil pressure light came on. I had the sensor replaced and that seems to have solved the problem.

The 3.4L runs hotter than the later 3.6L cars. I added a GT-3 centre rad with good results.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
