Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use borges' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend 31 degrees celsius climate' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

just one question, what viscosity do you guys recommend for 31 degrees celsius climate?

0W-40 or 5w-40 make up the entire recommended oil list provided by Porsche.

I prefer to use the oil that the car maker recommends for the application as they actually test oils and use objective data to determine the proper oils to use.

Suggestion
There is no realistic means to determine the true lubrication performance of an oil short of using an extensive oil test sequence such as the ACEA A3/B4 which is the basis for many Euro car maker engine oil specifications.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
hahaha. I am gonna start a new thread about OIL. The last one i saw was in 2007. Also, did some search on what oil to use but to no avail ...
So starting this thread i want to know what BRAND and VISCOSITY you guys use. Hearing that using higher viscosity oil is better? True?
Currently am using Mobil 1 0w40 and was thinking of switching to 10w40. Thoughts? All summer all year round.
Cheers
You do realize you are on the verge of opening a can of chaos with this question. All I will say is I use Mobil 1 5-40. Will switch to Syntec for the next change.

31C? Man, that's cold... Last summer coming across AZ into CA I drove many many miles through 47C heat (118F) in my 03 Turbo.
For several oil changes now I've been using Castrol Syntec 5w-50.
And I change this every 5K miles.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Just stop. The oils we may use here in North America may not even be available to you in Singapore. 0W-40 or 5w-40 make up the entire recommended oil list provided by Porsche.
Mobil 1 and Castrol are fine and may be available in your market.

Okay,
Serious question. Assuming you are using a big-brand synthetic (Mobil 1 xW40, Syntec xW40), WHERE do you get it? Some of my local auto parts chains seem to have limited selection of these less common viscosity blends.
Just stop? Hey this is a great distraction for that "other thread"
how ofter should you change the OIL too....
and did you hear about the Blonde who asked the parts guy for a new 710 cap, said her motor used to have now, now its gone?
Oil is a religion for some folks and in many cases completely devoid of reason or good judgment.
I prefer to use the oil that the car maker recommends for the application as they actually test oils and use objective data to determine the proper oils to use. The car companies know far more about what works in their engines than anyone I've ever seen posting in a car forum.
Ad hype is not an appropriate basis to make an informed, objective technical decisions in my experience. There is no realistic means to determine the true lubrication performance of an oil short of using an extensive oil test sequence such as the ACEA A3/B4 which is the basis for many Euro car maker engine oil specifications.

YMMV
Been to Pep Boys in Newark and Advance Auto (was looking for Mobil1 5w40) , and didn't find it. Maybe I'll try a different Pep Boys (Kirkwood Highway?)
Um, Ed, could you be a bit more specific???
Amazon

or

watch the sales, Amazon has free shipping sometimes on orders over $100
Okay, so what kind of oil should i change to at the next service? Castrol i can get in singapore but not the other brands you guys have mentioned. Should i try Mobil 1 5-40?
I thought my engine was more quiet with Brad Penn than Mobil 1.
Altough, I never had to add Mobil 1 between changes, she burned a half a quart of the Brad Penn.
OK OK ....it was a slow day yesterday, it was Friday yesterday and I didn't feel like working because of the 2 previous excuses....besides I'm smart, good looking (you can tell by my avatar) and people like me.
Actually I need to lay off this site...I'm getting nothing done.
