I have disconnected the drive shafts at the gearbox, but I'm a bit concerned about them getting them caught up/jammed when I try to get the bell housing past them when taking the trans out.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Everyone, Taking my time over a throw out bearing replacement and have a question. I have disconnected the drive shafts at the gearbox, but I'm a bit concerned about them getting them caught up/jammed when I try to get the bell housing past them when taking the trans out. Is it easier to remove them completely? Tie them out of the way somehow? Any suggestions would be gratefully received. 99 c2. Thanks Jason

POST 2Original post

G'day Jason, I just put my engine & trans back in my car this morning and there weren't any clearance issues at all with the drive shafts. I wouldn't have thought there would be issues with pulling the transmission back off the motor either. Other pics I have seen with the trans removed whilst the motor was in place didn't seem to have the drive shafts tied back. Hope that helps.

POST 3Original post

leave them in place, plenty of space... you can push them aside easily
