Reins are great, I replaced my originals at 44k and they were due upon inspection.

Someone sanity check me please, brand new mounts from the dealer, there looks to be some creasing on the rubber inside?

Might want to check some of the online dealers to if going OE (either to order or get your dealer to price match).

For sure, I assume I'll be replacing basically anything made of rubber on this thing.

Suggestion
Given an OEM part is relatively cheap and seems like relatively easy/quick job with the special tool, will replace my transmission mount for good measure.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2004 C2. My first question, these are toast right? I don't notice any terrible clunking, but it seems like the rubber is extended out of the mount a fair bit:
Assuming they are and I need to swap them:
Should I swap the trans mount at the same time?
Which engine mounts to I buy? Looking at ECS:
Hamburg Tech - $380 for a pair
OEM - $800 for the pair
Rein - $315 for the pair
I've read some not so great things about HT and I've had a decent experience with Rein parts on my G63, any reason to pony up for OEM vs Rein?
Over time they start to sag and just wear out. Remember you have a 21 year old car and probably should change them either way. I went with Tahiko. Found them on Amazon and they work perfect! Paid $112 shipped. No complaints! I haven't done my transmission mount yet but will in the coming months since my car has 117k on it. .
For sure, I assume I'll be replacing basically anything made of rubber on this thing. I was more wondering if this is a do it now based on the pictures or if I should hold off. Definitely doing my trans when I pull it for the IMS solution.
If there were more important items to attend to before doing the mounts (IMS), that wouldn't be any issue to run them until you have time to switch them out.
I went with Rein for engine mounts about 4 years ago. They have held up well.
Regarding trans mount, if you have a manual, to piggyback a couple of items amd save money, it may make sense to do it when you drop the trans to do the IMSB/RMS/Clutch/Flywheel.
If you want a low cost solution before you are ready to drop your trans, you can try the Function First trans mount inserts. I just went with the softest (orange) FF insert to keep the NVH to a minimum until i am ready to drop the trans at the end of the year. But I do feel a little NVH above 3000 rpm.
Good luck with your project.
This is what I was looking for, probably going to pull the trigger on Reins. I think part of what I was worried about was whether or not having new motor mounts with a 22 year old trans mount (even if it's visibly in good shape) would be problematic.
I hear you. I figured i would do the insert as a short term solution low cost solution. For sure, the long term solution is a new OE trans mount. I cant say I had any issues with a 23 year old trans mount, but it was time to either replace it or just pop in an insert until I was ready to drop the trans at the end of the year. Its a short term cost effective option.
I have some pretty much unused Hamburg Tech engine mounts that I bought and am not using. If you wanted to try them, I could send them to you for very cheap. Send me a PM if you are interested.
I figured what the heck and ordered the Reins for the motor. My IMS solution is getting done at Steinels in Ohio early May since something about die grinding my block sketches me out so the trans mount will get done at the same time (I don't have a press). I think since the trans mount looks good I'm not going to bother with anything stopgap for less than a month. It does seem like a decent option though.
Noise Vibration Harshness was a real common phrase in my LS days with poly and solid mounts everywhere haha
Reins are great, I replaced my originals at 44k and they were due upon inspection. There are maybe a handful of HT parts I would trust and bushings/rubber are not one of them.
Yeah theyve been advertising that for a while but, about a month ago when I was ordering mounts, they were allowing you to place orders on the Reins and then they would cancel them because they couldnt get them.
I dont know why they dont update their site - I came to the conclusion Rein doesnt make these mounts anymore and I bought OE Porsche mounts. I think the new OEM is VNE but I passed on them because they look a bit goofy, the top is plastic I think vs metal like the original.
Hopefully I am wrong and OP gets his mounts.
This kit? Id double check what you ordered, again i hope Im wrong because Reins had great reviews but the mounts in this kit are not Rein.
A month or more ago everyone told me they no longer stocked or could order the Rein mounts.

Sure does and I hope youre right but if you click on the kit contents it shows theyll ship the HT mounts with that kit.
You should give them a call to confirm unless you are OK with either brand. My guess is they never updated the description when they no longer could source the Rein parts.
Just trying to help, not trying to be difficult here haha. I went through this pain recently and trying to pass along what I learned.
Oh youre right, thats interesting. Ill have to give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. They have 2 kits on their page with one being specifically HT.
Just got off the phone with ECS, they are in fact shipping the HT mounts and I'm unable to cancel because they have already been shipped. Once they're delivered I can return them which I gotta say I'm a little unimpressed by the customer service for a part that in my opinion is not represented correctly, should have stuck with FCP.
Yeah thats a bummer. I used to buy a lot from ECS for my BMWs and slowly switched over to almost exclusively buying from FCP for all my cars now.
FCPs customer service and ability to get parts to my house quickly has been very good in my experience.
Yeah tbh would have gone FCP if I had known ECS was misrepresenting parts. I sent them an email to see if we can sort this out without me sitting around waiting on returns and whatnot, but I have low expectations.
Sharing my experience in case helpful. Noticed some slight increased vibration at around 3k rpm. Thought maybe to look at the engine mounts even though car only has 25k miles. One mount did seem a bit lower than the other but both seemed in OK shape (to my inexperience eye). Decided to replace the mounts myself with OEM ones. Made a big difference in overall feeling and the vibration at 3k was gone. Once removed was clear both mounts were worn, with passenger side being more so. No issues that I can tell with the transmission mount after replacing. Given an OEM part is relatively cheap and seems like relatively easy/quick job with the special tool, will replace my transmission mount for good measure. Not confident it will make a big difference but then again didn’t expect that with mount.
So this is all about context in my opinion. The mounts are super easy to swap and most should perform just fine.
The aftermarket mounts replacements, I would expect, would perform similar to the OE Porsche mounts but maybe they fail sooner. But they are 1/3rd the price.
The aftermarket performance mounts may feel different or have adverse effects. Plenty of threads to read and come to your own conclusions.
I went OE Porsche from FCP because of the controversy over aftermarket mounts. I wanted the OE function and considered affect on resale.
yeah tbh Im torn, my local dealer will price match ECS so Id be at $357 per mount vs $315 for both haha
Likely going to return the HT mounts and go OE, it would have been nice to get some Reins on the cheap and fast, but oh well
Might want to check some of the online dealers to if going OE (either to order or get your dealer to price match). For example, Delaware Porsche lists the mounts at $322. Every little bit helps imo.

Another option is the RS style mounts from
Rennpart
I have never used them but others have, I will probably use these when I put my engine back in the car.
At the price point I ended up pulling the trigger for some OE mounts, my local dealer matched the best online price so they should get here this week. I already sent back the HT mounts to ECS so I guess I'm just waiting on a refund there.
In my experience they were stiff but moveable. If i held down the base and grabbed the end of the stud could wiggle it a few mm each way (at the base) with moderate effort. Also suggest comparing them to the old ones when you take them off. It was pretty clear the difference between old and new and gave me no issues about the new ones.
Nice - glad to hear your experience was similar to mine. Made quite the difference that I decided to do the trans mount as well so all three points were fresh (tbc in next week or so)
