Reported cause
That comfort is due to a softer sidewall which does carry a penalty of reduced steering responsiveness.
Leading evidence: 'softer sidewall' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'softer sidewall' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace 2 rears of conti 2s' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have used Bridgestone SA-02s, Contis N-specs, and now Michelin Pilot Sports.

I hate to admit this but, I got some used MPS's with only 4/32" tread left on them for free.

Suggestion
I paid $60 more for the set of 4s compared to replacing 2 rears of Conti 2s.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need some help...my car is due for some new set of shoes and I am looking for a suitable tire. I do not race the car but enjoy sporty driving. The current Michelin P-0 are a bit bumpy, what would you recommend?
Thanks
I have a new set of Sumitomo(Dunlop) HTR ZIII's sitting in my office right now. Its going to replace my Conti 2s. It looks sweet and best bang for the buck.
There is a long thread about them in the 993 board which is the reason I bought it. I paid $60 more for the set of 4s compared to replacing 2 rears of Conti 2s. Given the reviews, its not a hard decision.

I put on all new four Sumitomo HTR ZIII's about a month ago.
The total cost for all four were about the same as 2 rear Michelin's and I think they are a quieter tire...very smooth and I have had no issues on dry or rainy conditions...For the money, they get my vote.
I had Kumho's the last time before I switched to Bridgestone S02s. All I can say is what a horrible tire. Huge difference the S02s make. Would never go with Kumho again even if they are half the money.
You guys are close, but it's all about the II's.
Not much weather to deal with here obviously.

My local Big O Tire offered to match tirerack.com price of $145 for the rears (265/35ZR18), and I'm saving on the shipping.
These were on the rear of my car when I got it, and they did well under hard driving and are still quiet even with no inside tread left, yeah ha.
With all the money I save, maybe I can get a tank of gas.
I have B'stone RE750's on my 01. They are a good compromise between wear and performance and are pretty reasonable when compared to other options out there. Check out the reviews on tirerack.com. My fronts have 35K on them and they still have quite a bit of tread left. The rears lasted about 26K miles of mostly rural driving. They are summer tires so when the weather gets cold, they lose quite a bit of grip.
Bridgestone RE050A pole positions here. I likem' nice on the twisties. Not much experience with MPS2's but I'd try those too, since I heard a lot of good things about them.
For widebodies the choice is a bit more limited. (On my previous car, s2000, I went with Eagle F1 GS D3 and loved them.)
But on my C4S I just installed the Sumitomo HTR Z III -- they are rated better than the OEM Continental Contisport 2 and at half the price I thought it would be interesting to try.
I really like them already. But only 500 miles.
Used to be shod with the Pirelli P Zero Rossos - hated them. Now wearing the Yokohama Advan Neova AD07. The grip is a lot better. I have driven 1 autoX and 1 DE on them and give them
, so there are no complaints for the street (except the price).
This tire test is from 3 years ago but it might be helpful

Just put on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on mine. Averaged $250/tire. Very sticky and look great too. Switched from Pilots and would definitely recommend them. Great reviews on Tirerack too.

Thats a great tire, I had a set on my Boxster S, My 996 had brand new Conti's when I bought it, as soon as they wear out I want to put the Bridgestone on it.
I have used Bridgestone SA-02s, Contis N-specs, and now Michelin Pilot Sports.
I hate to admit this but, I got some used MPS's with only 4/32" tread left on them for free. I put them on since I shredded the tread off the SA-02s from well.........boost
.
All I can say is this - these worn out MPS's are the best tire I have had bar none.
Oh, failed to mention, I had the Conti's and SA-02's from new and the used MPS's are far better.
It has been a few months and around 1500 miles since I put on my Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs so my opinion of them has evolved a bit. I am still very happy with this tire for a daily driver, especially compared to the Pirelli P Zero Systems that they replaced. The Sumitomo is far far far quieter than the Pirelli and is also more comfortable. That comfort is due to a softer sidewall which does carry a penalty of reduced steering responsiveness. The difference is not extreme, but still noticable. I find grip to be comparable between the Sumitomo and the Pirelli, with perhaps a slight nod to the Pirellis. My opinion about grip differs from day to day, and situation to situation, so they are close... but different. The Sumitomos squeel a bit more as they approach the limit. This can actually be a bit of a blessing, as the Pirellis gave far less warning before suddenly breaking loose.
Without a doubt there are better tires available from an absolute sports tire (track/auto-x/DE) perspective, but for a daily driver the Sumitomos are excellent. Considering the price difference compared to something like Michelin PS2s, it is realistic that one could actually save money over a few years time by having a set of dedicated track wheels with PS Cups, and Sumitomos for the daily drive. This could be better than having only one set of wheels and buying $1800 of PS2s every year, just to waste them on your daily commute.
