Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install recently' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install recently' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
I found a 1999 996 C4 w/ aero kit 45k miles at a porsche dealer. They're asking $33900, what would be a good starting point for price haggling?
any info appreciated.
Thx!
There are a lot of 996's listed on ebay, so the seller has a lot of competition in a lousy economic environment. You have cash in hand? Offer 25. (Unless you're in love with the aero package, of course, in which case you need to dig deeper for some reason I absolutely cannot understand. I recommend you buy a plain one and spend the excess on a psychiatrist to see why people love big silly wings and goofy sill skirts.)
Hi Martin,
Is the car warrantied? Thats something to consider in pricing but I would look to the mid to high 20's for sure. Despite Carpundits less that pleasant reply
many of us do like the Aerokit and there is certainly value to that. If you can, why not look for a 02+, It's a buyers market for sure. Good luck! I'm off to my shrink to see if my love of wings and side skirts is related to any other inadequacies
Thanks Marc and carpundit. It's always good to listen to different opinions and views. I may need to ask my shrink to double my prozac dosage...the car comes with a 30 day warranty and has gone through a cpo inspection. I can purchase a extended warrant to cover 1 year. also a new clutch and a/c compressor were installed recently. one thing that caught my attention is the clutch, according to the dealer the car was hardly driven, so do the 996's require a clutch every 45k miles? I have a 87 944, and the clutch lasted 110k miles.
Yes, there does seem to be a market for that aerokit. No doubt about it. There's no accounting for taste.
Then again, I was bidding on Martina Navratilova's purple Carrera. So there
really
is no accounting for taste.
Seriously, buy what
you
like, not what I like. I do think 33,900 is high for a '99, but it's just a touch more than the insurance company is paying out for mine. So maybe I need to recalibrate.
Still, look at ebay for asking prices.
'99 C4s are great cars - I love mine. The aero kit will give it a little more value, but I'm with the other here - high 20s should take the car home.
I'd be less concerned with the clutch and more concerned with all the other maintenance it's received over the years - coolant expansion tank, brake fluid flushes, RMSs, etc. It would have to be a great deal for me to buy a car that doesn't have a complete and fully documented service history.
I'm skeptical of dealers... Unless you know them really well and have a trusting relationship with them. It'll suck if, within the next year, you have to spend $5k fixing or replacing other little wear items - brakes, wheel bearings, suspension bushings, shocks, what-ever...
Try to find you a private seller if you can. You can do a lot more bargaining with them. Buying a P-Car should involve some time looking around at different models and sellers. There was really no way I was gonna my car at the dealer even if it was brand new. Plus it took me over 1 year to find what I was looking for and only 1 week to purchase after I found it. So definitely look around and take your time when making a purchase. Best of luck as well.
Here's a nice one on ebay...
