Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I thought about the body shop possibly doing some kind of wiring "repair" but there is no evidence of anything being moved in the plugs or any wires being spliced.

Suggestion

Sounds like you need a wiring diagram and a DVOM to test wiring from switch to motor ....( eliminate/verify that since other things have failed)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 2004 C4S was involved in a rather serious accident I refer to as "C4S vs Tree". Everything forward of the door handles was bent or broken. Just got the car back and I'm going through the nits yet remaining. I'm 99% there, just have an interesting problem. The passenger side mirror would not adjust in the vertical direction but would move in the horizontal direction. This movement was 90 degrees from where the up/down/left/right control was used. In other words if I wanted it to go up and down, it goes left and right. Found the motor had a broken plastic gear so ordered one from dcAuto. Ok, that is another story but suffice it to say I get the correct motor and installed it. To my surprise it still adjusts backwards! Up is Right, Down is Left, etc. I checked the connector and it is keyed so only plugs into the motor one way. The driver's side mirror behaves normally. The wiring bundle connector going to the mirror is also keyed so only goes in one way. I looked in PET and there is only one part number for the motor, no driver vs passenger version. Ok, there is a second mirror motor part number but it has to do with an option my car does not have. Basically, Porsche only has one motor for this. I thought about the body shop possibly doing some kind of wiring "repair" but there is no evidence of anything being moved in the plugs or any wires being spliced. I can drive the car as is once I get the mirror adjusted but I miss my "reverse lowering the passenger mirror" function as now it simply moves the mirror all the way "in" on the horizontal plane. I'm stumped. Can anybody tell me what I'm missing? TIA

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, wiring diagram and my trusty Fluke is the next step. Just hoping there was something obvious I was missing. Thx

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, I figured it out. My car does have the M537/538 mirror option. Problem was the body shop purchased a non-M537 mirror and the motor is different. When I got my original mirror housing back (it was broken in the accident) I noted the extra wires in the plug going into the motor and immediately it made sense. Now to extract the original mirror motor and its wiring harness as I'm betting it will just plug in and work as it should. Maybe somebody will find this useful.
