Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

62 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1st car - '87 Honda Civic. Long story short: my senile grandfather(~78) married a 32 year old mexican nurse. We convinced him (& her) that a prenup was needed. However, she outsmarted us and him by having him buy tons of houses, cars & jewelry and put it in her name ONLY. They divorced 2 yrs later and he was broke - which was saying something since he was world renowned Orthopaedist. Anyway, the day after the wedding he bought her a Mercedes and she wanted to do something nice so she sold me her Honda Civic for $500. It was a great car until something snapped on the freeway and I ended up flipping it off of loop 610 in Houston. Seatbelt saved me! 1st Porsche July 10, 2003 bought an '03 Boxster S

POST 10Original post

Mine was a '69 Fiat 850 coupe. Paid $280 "as is" from a dealer in Buffalo. I loved that car(really, it was cool). Took it home and bondo-ed it all over. In winter, you'd pull a little throttle cable to hold the pedal down and go have coffee while each of the four cylinders came on line. Heater core failed and gave me a hotfoot. Alas, it died when a pothole swallowed the right front wheel and the rust holding the front suspension on gave it up. Looked like this one except a lot rustier. First P-Car: 2004 996

First car: 1974 Chevy Vega GT hatchback. Bright racing orange w/black stripes and white letter tires Wore the wheel bearings out in year one. By year two, it was 'fill 'er up and a quart of oil' every week. Blast of a party car for a teen though. First Porsche: 1999 C2 Cabriolet, Guards/Beige/Black. Wanted this car/combo for years, drove a '97 at Champion a couple of times, drove one here in Charlotte, then ordered the '99 when the 996 body style rolled out. Now: '04 C4S Cab. Yeah, life is good.

POST 16Original post

I had a 1969 912 as well - red with lots of rust. I spent most of my late teens dollars on that car. Right front A arm broke in half due to rust - it took me 3 weeks to fix because I had to drill out the ball joint bolts when then broke off in the repair. Two weeks after that, the left front A arm did the same thing and.... you guessed it, those bolts broke off too. This only took a week and a half since I was now really good at the drill out job. Then to top it off, both arms fell through the floor pan! I had a steel plate welded across the whole front end to hold it all together. And those are just the highlights. After that, I swore off Porsches until last spring, 25 or so years later when I picked up a 2002 C4 Cab. I don't know what I was thinking... Wish me luck!

POST 40Original post

Nick, I know the exact feeling. My 72 Nova (means "no go" in Spanish) was a red four door, but had the same lame in-line 6 dieseling pos. Did you have that wonderful two-speed automatic? Totalled mine. (Trivia point: Chevy relaunched the Nova as a rebadged Corolla in the late '80's. Sales were horrible -- they did some research and discovered that the Nova had the 2nd-worst name recognition of all time, after the Edsel. Not sure why the "unsafe at any speed" Corvair wasn't in there). 2nd car: Fiat X1-9. Bought used and barely working as a fixer-upper. The car vanquished me. On one road trip, got all the way to LA and half-way back (blew a head gasket). 3rd car: '72 Volvo sedan. Slower than the Chevy and the Fiat, if that's possible. 4th car: '86 Subaru wagon (do you see a trend here?) 1st car with more than 125 horsepower: 95 Volvo Turbo (222 horsepower, whee!) 1st Porsche: '01 C2. I think I deserve it after all the other ones above.

Over the next five years, I went through a '72 911T, a '73 911T parts car, an '84 911 Turbo Look, a '99 Boxster (blue), an '88 911 Carrera, and now another '99 Boxster. But it will probably go up for sale this spring/summer so I can try something else! Can't really say which is my favorite Pcar. For some reasons, the '88 911. For others, the '72 911. For best overall car, the '99 Boxster(s). But I've thoroughly enjoyed them all.
