I'm interested in getting a set of used wheels and tires for my 996 to use on the track. I have 7.5X18 with 225/40 fronts and 10X18 with 265/35 rears on now. I was thinking I would want 8in fronts to get a litter wider tire like a 235 or 245 up front for less understeer. In looking through classifides I find a ton of 17 in rims for sale for a lot less than the 18's I find. So my question is would a set of 17 in rims do just as well on the track as 18's for my 996? If so, any suggestions on sizes (ie how wide is best in the front and rear and what size tires would work best)? I would assume that wider=better grip. Thanks for the help.
