The only issue is a rather silly amount of memory.

I use EVDO and have never noticed a power issue, but most of my usage is on a computer card.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ok since I got my IPhone I have been checking out rennlist all the time, while I'm shopping for food, waiting in line, waiting to be served in restaurants, etc. etc, etc. My name is Robert and I'm an addict.
Seriously tho, anyone else all of a sudden checking out this site, ebay, etc way more than necessary since obtaining that little infernal machine because its its just way more fun than a phone should be? BTW, I hated all my previous cell phones and I WAS looking forward to hating this one too.
i love the iPhone...I got 3 and it is the best invention EVER! The simplicity of all programs...and wait till February when they open the forum to developers....the gadgets and useable application will be thru the roof.
Agreed that the websurfing is slow....but wifi makes up for it....and the typing is getting used to, but it still beats the dirty worn buttons on my MDA.
The only HUGE problem is that AT&T SUCKS!!!! big time.....but visible voicemail makes up for this....no more listening to all the voicemails...just click on the one you want to hear.
So yes I am an addict.
As long as you have a wifi connection, Rennlist is sweet! But if you have to use the EDGE network, screw that. I love my iPhone and the typing is simple as can be and even auto corrects so you can type quickly.
One trick is to go into your settings here on Rennlist and TURN OFF IMAGES so the pages load faster and you can surf tolerably on the EDGE network. The new gen of iPhones will have 3G but for battery sake the first gen came with EDGE only and they are NOT upgradeable. You will have to sell yours and buy a new one if you want 3G.
I am sooo ready for the next gen iPhone. I mean, what's the deal with no 3G support? And no MMS messages? WTF? Everytime a friend sends me an MMS message I have to log on to this retarded AT&T website to look at it -- give me a break! I tell you what, if Apple had come out with the Touch at the same time they launched the iPhone I would have gotten a Touch and a Nokia.
Did they do that for the sake of the battery, or for the sake of Apple and AT&T's wallets when all the current owners buy the 3G ones at, say, $599 again?
Either way, it was a glaring flaw in an otherwise spectacular product. The only reason I don't own one is because after using EVDO, I don't want anything to do with EDGE service.
$599? Where did you get that from? I paid $299 for mine. And yes, that is EXACTLY why since the majority of users were going to use wifi for surfing EDGE hardware was used therefore making battery life longer. The other rationale offered was that email and texting is FAST on the EDGE network so the "only" thing to suffer is web.
$599 is what the original 8 GB iPhone cost when it was released, and I was somewhat joking about selling the early adopters new phones. As for the battery issue, it was at least as much about the power requirements of the HSPDA chip as it was about the wifi.
Personally, I think it was a glaring flaw, but that has more to do with AT&T than it does Apple--it's a great product that I wish would have found a home with an EVDO carrier instead. That's all.
You know, there's a reason that I have a phone that does the singular job of making phone calls.
I own most Apple products, but the iPhone never appealled to me. Much as it's a great product I'm of the philosophy of buying a product that does one thing and does it very well. I'm hardly away from an internet connection and even if I were I know that surfing on a tiny screen doesn't appeal to me.
Tell me why people feel the need to be connected and available 24/7?
I hate to agree with Ben about anything, but I think he may be right. My wife was an early iPhone adopter, and I loved her phone for about a week. But surfing is slow when you're not wifi, and the "keyboard" drives me nuts.
As a portable computer in a wifi spot, it's great. But out on the road, as a phone, give me a blackberry instead.
I hate myself for writing that.
i'll give u a high5 for your note here.
made me smile.
i can see from this thread who runs a truly busy/mobile work schedule v. those that have their own creative ways to manage time and contacts. there's no way i could use an iphone as it stands for the things i need to do in my daily life. it's a nice, slick product. i like apple as i am a vain guy.
but in reality, the sucker needs to go thru a few iterations and the overall telecom/cell infrastructure and hardware such as batteries juicing these things up needs further innovation to truly make it a no-brainer product. this is true not just for apple but for everyone else out there.
for now, i've got my samsung blackjack 2 and though not as cute as the iphone, it's getting the job done. even if this thing runs on 3g, surfing the web is an arduous task outside of checking weather, headlines, and the like. there's now way i'd try to surf rennlist or any other forum thru a mobile phone right now.
not sure if i'll ever have that need so long as i have a laptop and wifi outside of the home so you know where i'm going with this point...
No EDGE where you are? I'll agree 3G is slow, but for "checking the weather" kind of stuff, EDGE is plenty quick.
My vote on the main topic: I, too, prefer a dedicated communications device. I just, with a heavy heart, left the Treo world (perv that I am) and got a Blackberry. Phone and email, that's all I need.
But.
The iPod Touch? Basically iPhone minus the phone. It's just brilliant. Junior has one, and the You-Tube gang don't find it any hardship to watch video on that thing. The interfaces are breathtaking, kooky but also simple and intuitive, and it just plain works. The only issue is a rather silly amount of memory. 16 gigs isn't enough for music, never mind video. But it really is a sweet little toy.
No thanks if Verizon cripples it somehow. Do they still do that?
Can't believe I never saw the police car in your avatar until now...I always thought it was a simple head shot...
I think it will probably always only be a GSM phone, unfortunately. Which is also why we don't have them (legally) in Canada. The only GSM carrier here is a cable company, and they aren't playing nice with Apple, so Apple's not supplying.
I love my iphone except for the following:
http://www.appleiphonereview.com/iph...th-the-iphone/
I hope someone from Apple R/D is reading this.
I tried the all the other smart phones (Blackberry Pearl, Curve, Voyager, etc..., ) and the iPhone interface wins hands down.
i'm sure apple, microsoft, samsung, motorola... went to great lenghts to do the best they can to make their product work well given contraints that are both obvious to the end user and invisible to the end user because the end user shouldn't care.
i like the ipod touch. i have one. but do i use it for websurfing (wifi enbaled) or surfing youtube? nope. i use it 99% for listening to music while running/gym time/airport time and the 1% is watching music videos/youtube/buying music on itunes. i could've done just fine with the nice nano, but it's kinda like why i run 19s v. 18s and lowered to the point where i can't mindlessly take any curb in seattle. it's nicer looking.
i want to pick up a zune 2. the small one because the ipod touch is a wee bit too heavy for the nike shorts.
It's less Verizon and more Motorola, a company that has somehow lost complete touch with reality and common sense. Their products make me want to start writing letters and mailing them.
I have the I-Touch. I set up rennlist as a bookmark with a few other sites I use regularly and it opens right up with little or no typing.
Use it primarily as an I-pod but really love the many extra features (ie.internet). Looking forward to the many new applications which are expected in the next few months. Wish it had the camera like the I-phone. Was thinking it did when I bought it.
MacWorld is going on this week (maybe next week), so announcements ought to be coming out shortly regarding new products/applications.
No argument on the Motorola thing. My "newer" RAZR's contacts list shows every phone number entry, i.e. four entries for home, cell, work, and fax. Cheesy.
Yes, my wife's does the same thing... I mean the people writing the interfaces for those phones were not hugged enough as children, and then beaten by their spouses as adults, or at least they should be.
There's a reason that their CEO and CTO recently were booted from the company.
I never had any respect for their CTO she was a style over substance person and the RAZR is a prime example of it. She was carrying a pink RAZR (specially made for her) long before they hit the market. Sadly, she's now joined Cisco and will seek to screw up their product lines before she gets fired from there.
I think Verizon has it's own internal problems.

Look what they missed out on.
The voyager is the supposed iPhone killer, but I actually got my hands on one and played with it a little. iPhone hands down...even with alll it's problems.
On a positive note, I think this is a good move on verizon's part.

I always thought they spent too much time getting to market with new phone models becuase they kept messing with the OS on the devices.
Did you guys see the latest iPhone updates? Enhanced maps, customizable home screen and
the ability to send SMS text messages to multiple people
-- my Nokia from 1998 used to do that!!!
http://www.apple.com/iphone/gettings...te2/large.html
Yeah, I skimmed the "25 things wrong with the iPhone" article that someone posted and couldn't believe some of the left-out features:
2. Except for the first and last SMS messages in a session, iPhone text messages lack timestamps.
4. The on-screen keyboard cant be used in landscape mode in applications other than Safari.
6. Incoming text messages appear word-for-word on the screen upon receiving them, which may be a privacy issue for some.
Are you serious? I wouldn't even WANT text messages at that point...
15. The iPhone lacks a Find function for sorting through contacts, e-mails, calendar appointments, notes, etc.
25. Because it is recessed, the headphone jack is incompatible with non-Apple headphones.
29. Cant use iPhone as a hard drive storage device, unlike the iPod.
34. Cannot send mass text messages.
35. iPhone lacks a video camera.
...and if you think I'm just picking on the iPhone, I mostly listed items that would appear on, say, a RAZR or something. This is all design stuff, not expensive hardware modifications.
Just installed the 1.1.3 update.
2. Except for the first and last SMS messages in a session, iPhone text messages lack timestamps. Still an issue.
4. The on-screen keyboard cant be used in landscape mode in applications other than Safari. Still an issue.
6. Incoming text messages appear word-for-word on the screen upon receiving them, which may be a privacy issue for some. Are you serious? I wouldn't even WANT text messages at that point... Yep still an issue.
15. The iPhone lacks a Find function for sorting through contacts, e-mails, calendar appointments, notes, etc. Not fixed yet.
25. Because it is recessed, the headphone jack is incompatible with non-Apple headphones. I hate this. I have a nice set of Bose earbuds that don't work.
29. Cant use iPhone as a hard drive storage device, unlike the iPod. Can't do it still.
34. Cannot send mass text messages. Finally something fixed.
35. iPhone lacks a video camera. Not there yet.
All those things can be fixed with software upgrades.
I really just need an ipod/alarm clock and need to recieve and send an occasional call or sms message so the iphone is fine for me. Here in Canada we don't have the choice of either a iphone or the lg voyager and are plans are very expensive. You guys are lucky to even have the oppuntity to have these to bitch about.
So I'll wait to get one until they've got the software upgrades in place. Simple as that.
Again, not trying to pick on a neat toy, but automatically displaying your text messages on its giant screen the second they come in? C'mon, that's Mickey Mouse ****--I couldn't even USE one for work.
don't see what the big deal is about having the thing preview text - big friggin' deal. i know on my samsung blackjack2 i don't like how the message sent confirmation screen pops up after every text sent.
i'm really curious how apple's going to hit up 3g yet still maintain the same form factor/battery life.
i know on my bj2 it required a thicker case as compared to the bj1 which had absolutely crappy battery life with 3g on.
i'm liking the bj2 so far.
a phone i'd really like to use for pure social use is the sidekick. love that thing.
Samsung needs to get their act together. They really suck in the phone dept. I mean literally, the phone dept. You get all these cool features but lack the thing that is most important, a quality phone call. Not to mention their ridiculous battery life. This is my second one and they have yet to figure it out. I will never buy another Samsung product. I have the Sync, it should be called Suck. Sanyo never let me down in several phones from the past.
ummm samsung has served me well. i need windows mobile and their BJ units have been the best to date. phone call quality is awesome. form factor is great. the feel and durability of the BJ1 and 2 are fantastic.
they resolved the battery issue with the BJ2. i used edge speeds (i.e. turned off 3g) with the BJ1 and the battery was a true road warrior. it was the 3g that was really demanding much more power.
not experiencing the same thing u are.
also, i got this program called windows live that does push e-mail for your hotmail. i use hotmail as my personal email and it's been awesome getting instant hotmail directly to my phone on top of text/exchange mail. my setup is on point now. 3g is cool too since u can get data while on the phone.
To be fair, the incoming txt message doesn't light up the screen when it comes in. The screen is still in standby mode. The txt will show up when you bring the phone out of standby.
From what I hear, this is why the gen 1 iphone didn't have 3G to begin with. Although 3G is a power hog, I still would have like to have the option to turn it off/on. As is, it's battery life is very good compared to other smart phones. I get about 4.5 hrs of constant web/ipod/phone usage. I do have to charge the iphone every night to get max usage though.
yea and i def give credit to apple for doing their homework along this front. i was impressed with the battery life with the huge, bright screen.
also, once you get push email/calendaring to the iPhone (ridiculous it doesn't have one now), that'll suck more juice too on top of 3g. i notice that if i set my email/calendar to check on a time interval batt life is improved on my bj2, but i just set it to as items arrive since i recharge my phone every nite like you.
they have their work cut out for them. i'm curious to find out if they pull it off or not! good stuff.
Yes push would be nice but once every 15 minutes is just fine for me. If I am looking for something TIME SENSITIVE that 15 minutes wouldn't cover then I just open mail and it checks automatically when I open it.
To be fair to the other 3G providers, I think it's not so much the 3G in general that's a power hog, it's the HSDPA version of 3G that AT&T has chosen to utilize that eats all the power. I use EVDO and have never noticed a power issue, but most of my usage is on a computer card.
Personally, I didn't want anything to do with AT&T's 3G effort after reading that devices can't seamlessly switch from low-speed (EDGE) to high-speed (HSDPA) like the competition can (seamless from 1x to EVDO). Anyone know if this is still a limitation?
People are confusing SMS with MMS. The iPhone doesn't have MMS which is what people want. Amazes me the some don't know the difference. iPhone never claimed to have MMS. If you want that you need a less complicated device like a RAZR. Christ, you give people what is essentially a "basic" iMac in their pocket that can do phone, texting, visual voicemail, GPS (technically), FULL web browsing, iCal, Mail, iTunes, Video, etc, etc, etc, and there is still more you want? There is NO PHONE that does what the iPhone does and there is NO phone that does everything. Bunch of spoiled babies here. Me included
Anyone know if Google successfully bought their own bandwith? There was one frequency up for auction by the FCC in December. I am hoping that Google would get the bandwidthand to compete with the likes of AT&T and Verizon on a level never been seen before.
A close friend of mine who works in the industry have been working with Google on the project. He cannot say much but says the drawing board has been cleared and Google is coming out with a smartphone incorporating both Apple and PCs' strengths.
While it's true that most people don't know the difference between MMS and SMS, they don't need to know the difference to know that they want to be able to send pictures and videos to their friends with their iPhone.
As for it essentially being a basic iMac, I'd support that statement more if it supported external storage and a way to download a file from the Internet. You're spot-on with the rest, though--even if you have a smartphone that will do everything you want, it won't have the iPhone interface. I can't wait for V2.0, end of next summer, maybe?
would it be wrong of me to say that mine has frozen up 5-6 times and when it freezes the off button is also frozen....
you know I should have known better before I bought it, and slamming them on an important website such as this without them being able to defend themselves is in the eyes of many wrong... lol could't resist nod to my DPS thread that people love to hate.
anyway all flaws aside its still a cool little toy that I can also make the occasional call on. Edge is painfully slow and especially so with google, I swear google hates apple or something. It takes longer to load and has more aborted attempts on my phone than any other website and it has NO graphics. I've started to use yaho search but it sucks bigtime.
