Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

never knew that porsche installed drl in their cars...personally do not understand their purpose.

I'm usually the first to apologize for Porsche's quirks, but I can't fathom why they used the headlights as DRLs.

I think mine has an "auto" setting which turns on the headlights when triggered by a light sensor.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My car has litronic headlights that come on when I start the car, even with the headlight switch in the off position. The headlight assembly has the 5w halogen parking lights that I assume should be the used as the DRL but they never come on. ( not even as parking lights)
Any ideas on what to check to get the sequence right so the 5w lamps to turn on as the DRL and the main headlights don't?
Thanks

The "right" sequence is, in fact, that your headlights come on, not the low wattage lamps. I'm usually the first to apologize for Porsche's quirks, but I can't fathom why they used the headlights as DRLs. Your car is working as designed.
never knew that porsche installed drl in their cars...personally do not understand their purpose. certainly undersand them coming on automatically during low light conditions.
Actually, I don't like it when the government and/or the car manufacturers believe that we can't think for ourselves.
For example, do we really need self-dimming rear view mirrors, self-actuating windshield wipers, automatic headlights that come on in low light conditions, and doors that lock automatically when you start driving? I don't know about you guys, but I want to be the one who makes those decisions.
Well, they don't, which is kinda the point. Even my stupid Land Rover has separate lamps for DRLs. Porsche just uses the headlamps.
I'm a believer in DRLs, though. Having lived with them for a long time with cars here in Canada, and also with motorbikes and snowmobiles, there's no question in my mind that they distinguish a vehicle from the landscape faster and give you a better shot at quickly figuring out its distance, speed and direction of travel, especially when the vehicle is in your peripheral vision.
and i never used it because i park in a condo garage and the sucker turns on the moment i start the car only to turn off a few seconds later right outside the garage in the daylight.
I have litronics and the DRL was always on when the headlights were on. Not whether the headlights were switched on OR off... only when the headlights were on and they looked gross with the HID light, so I pulled them out and it looks A LOT better.
but the "ugly egg yoks " aren't the parking lights, My lights have very cool 5w halogens beside the HID's. the issues is the little 5 w halogens never never come on ...
noob question i'm afraid
My daytime running lights seem to be intermittently not working. It seems to have coincided with 1) strange behaviour from my proximity warning system and 2) some doofus deciding to put his car in reverse on a busy street without looking behind him and giving me a gentle bump (no obvious damage)
is there an easy way to check this out?
