Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I changed my 2000 30000 mile plugs out for 60000 and guess what that is when I will replace them (at 90000 miles) unless I have some sort of an indication I need to change them.

2001 and later C2/C4s are recommended for 60K and use a higher quality plug than 99 & 2000.

Suggestion
Rough idle generally is associated with dirty throttle body and MAF sensor, or vacuum leak (but that will most likely set off a CEL).

Suggestion
If you do decide to change them at 30K then save yourself some cash and use a cheaper plug, as there is nothing to be gained in using a $12 60K plug for only 30K miles.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is it the general consensus that spark plugs should be replaced at the 30,000 mile service? My dealer says even though Porsche says they're good for 60,000 they're really not. It was a marketing ploy to keep up with the other manufacturers>
Make sense?
Depends on the year of the car and model as far as the replacement interval. 2001 and later C2/C4s are recommended for 60K and use a higher quality plug than 99 & 2000.
Generally for most normal usage a plug will perform adequately for 45-60K. There certainly won't be any harm in changing them out at a lower mileage except to your pocketbook. If you do decide to change them at 30K then save yourself some cash and use a cheaper plug, as there is nothing to be gained in using a $12 60K plug for only 30K miles.
As far as marketing ploys, it is a easy money maker for dealers since the dawn of time to get their customers to double up on replacement of maintenance items. All your service advisor is trying to do is to get some extra revenue out of you by suggesting a 30K plug change.
I agree a good way for the dealer to make an extra hour or two of labor and 15-40% profit on the plugs. I changed my 2000 30000 mile plugs out for 60000 and guess what that is when I will replace them (at 90000 miles) unless I have some sort of an indication I need to change them. The real question is how you drive your car, mine regularly goes 130 MPH plus on the autobahn.
If your plugs are the four-prong (Bosch or Beru) then they will go 60,000. If they are two prong then 30,000.
Porsche now recommends 4 prong (Bosch or Beru) for MY 996's.
Thank you. My car is ideling slightly rough and he told me the plugs really don't go 60,000 miles on a 2003 C4S. Normal driving around town. I'll go ahead and change them I guess.
Typically the symptoms of a worn out or faul out spark plug is lack of power on top end or full throttle, engine pinging. Rough idle generally is associated with dirty throttle body and MAF sensor, or vacuum leak (but that will most likely set off a CEL).
I recently took out my throttle body to clean out all the carbon build up around the butterfly valve area, now my idle is 100% smoother.
