Not saying it's wrong or anything, but I'm getting ready to do my first oil change (on the p-car) and want to get it right.

For those of you that change your own oil, is this consistant with your oil change routine?

Both of these posts don't refer to draining the oil cooler, which is what I'm curious about......Just wondering if most folks drain the oil cooler as part of the oil change process?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Newbie attempting my first oil change. Well, half an oil change. Found out shop added 5W-30 last month, so rather than pony up another 100 bucks, I'd like to swap the oil myself. The filter is brand new, so I don't even want to mess around with that. All I'm seeking to do is to drain what's in the engine and replace with the proper stuff.
I've NEVER done anything mechanical on ANY car before, and am quite intimidated.
Would anyone in the Chicago area have 20 minutes to spare to help me? I will bring the car to your location.
I'm on the North Shore (highland park), but will come to anyone in Chicagoland who has done this stuff. If you had the tools, it would be even better...otherwise I will purchase.
I live in Winnetka and would be happy to help. Unfortunately I will be out of town this weekend, so it would have to be next week. PM me if this works for you.
the oil drain plug is directly under the car dead center @ the rear. a regular socket wont fit because the drain plug is recessed that's how you'll know it. also you'll need to drain the oil cooler same type of plug
over to the left by the back driver's wheel. i think you should watch someone do this first (imho) car holds about 12 qrts if you don't drain the oil cooler about 10.5. good luck
I'd be happy to drain it for you. I live in Gurnee. I have the tools (and a lift at my home).
The whole deal will take 10 minutes.
You need 9 quarts of Mobil1 0W40.
Let me know if you'd like to come by.
I think this is the first time I've read about draining the oil cooler, and I think I've read every thread related to this topic. For those of you that change your own oil, is this consistant with your oil change routine? Not saying it's wrong or anything, but I'm getting ready to do my first oil change (on the p-car) and want to get it right.
thanks................

Ahsai,
Thanks, I have read those, and just now re-read them. Both of these posts don't refer to draining the oil cooler, which is what I'm curious about......Just wondering if most folks drain the oil cooler as part of the oil change process? I'm not even sure If my 02 c2 has this oil cooler, guess i should look.
