Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all ,
Just wanted to say hello to all the 996 owners out there .
I just picked up an '02 coupe and I'm MORE than pleased .
My first P-car was a '75 911s I bought when I was 18 back in '88 .
Owning and driving that car made such a huge impression on me , the longing was still there 16 years later .( I sold it in '90-'91)
I couldn't take it anymore ,sold the big SUV and started looking around. Well I wanted an earlier model ,,,,but things change as we get older .... A serious girlfriend/fiance . So we had to have all the interior amenities etc. Oh well , have to compromise right ?
After the 1st test drive I was STOKED ...
Long story short ,,, WE love the 996 and after some initial reservations the Girlfriend is now a believer ... I'd talk non-stop about P-cars .She said yesterday after she stole away for a drive " You were right. "
... There's a first
Anyway , sorry for the long post , wanted to say hi and thank y'all for all the tech advice and informative posts !
Take care ,
Henry
Henry - Congrats and Welcome to the Porsche Phunny Pharm! I'll "clue you in" before Dell gets on you for not posting a pic! It is customary for "newbies" to intorduce themselves and to post pics of their P-car. Well, you have the first one covered, so all we need is a couple of pics! Oh, you can post a pic of your girlfriend, too!
Again, WELCOME!
Thanks guys ~
I ran out and snapped a quick pic...getting dark .Then of course I had to go for a quick spin
I'll post a better picture soon.My Buddy has a nice camera .Guess I also need to upgrade my membership .
Man it sure is nice to get back into these cars ... Funny after all that time the smell is very familiar
take care ~
SWEET! and WELCOME!!!... Let the mods begin (unless you have a thick wallet ...don't ask Kilrgt for suggestions...
). How about clear side markers to start... about $30/pair from Sunset Porsche in Oregon.
thanks again guys,,,
mods .... hmmmm ...
I'll keep it really simple .
1) defintely euro M030 (compromise for bad roads ,$$$ and "plug and play " using porsche parts)
2) Clear markers sound great @ 30/pair ! Thanks fast40th ...
3) Perhaps an exhaust/intake
Don't plan to sink TOO much in this one if I don't have to. Want to upgrade in the not so distant future .
I supposed there are worse things to wait on Kilrgt !!!!!!!
take care all ~
Henry
Great story, and nice looking car.
I too was bitten by the Porsche bug around the same time as you. I am about your age, and bought my first 930 when I was 22. Man was that thing cool - thought I was hot stuff. Then sold that one and bought another, then it was time to get married and buy a house so the P-car had to go.
I was waiting and waiting to get another one, and one day I came out of In-N-Out Burger and there was a brand new speed yellow 996 with a child seat in the back. DING. If he can do it, so can I. The child seat fitment was the only thing holding me back.
People still make fun of my child seat in the Porsche - at least it is in the front now!
Congrats.
Ditto here... albeit my kid's seat is still on the back. And without a doubt the 911 is the ultimate "family car". Sure beats my Grandpa's old Fairmont.
Thats Awsome... I don't think there is anything that is cooler then seeing a baby seat in a Great ride Like a Porsche, I think their new saying should be
" Porsche the exotic that hauls ***...and kids"
OK if PCNA picks that up It was mine you all heard it here first.
Used to take my kid to preschool using the contraflow lane which required a passenger in the car. Stopped many times as the nut in the Porsche sneeking on the contraflow until they got used to me. Very cool. Now my kids are driving my Porsche.
Hey, you are going to love that 996!
Welcome back, Marshman - and great looking car! You can also get clear side markers from Eric @

(as well as other bits and pieces). I always recommend the forum supporting vendors, and Eric is great to work with.
great stuff guys ~!
Really nice story Joe .Thanks for sharing. Cool to hear about all the dads out there hauling junior around in a 996 ...no better way to ride
If I had the kids ,don't know if I could have the car... yeah right?!
______________
Tonight I was cruising to a friends cookout ,,,sunset ,windows down, roof open nice ride . I cross a bridge and come to an intersection with a light.
I'm 5 under the limit (45) in the right lane of a 4 lane road ...
no dedicated turn lanes or lights
Suv in left lane going my way is slowing at the green light signaling a left turn .
I'm about to just roll on through the green about 35
Had a bad feeling ...right then an oncoming car makes a quick left turn across the intersection . I'm forced to lay on the brake FAST ... Car stops perfectly . The other driver lurches to a stop . I ease by and the young woman driver has her head buried in her hands . I almost had a heart attack ....
That intersection is notorious for wrecks ,,,I'm certain if I was in my truck I would have been in an accident .
*whew*
I'll be glad to forget that one .
Take care all ~
Henry..congrats on the purchase and welcome to the board. I knew my GF (now my wife) was a keeper after our long meaningful conversation, late at night, cuddling in bed about the Pcar....LOL
