Reported cause
From researching previous posts, it sounded like the cause is actually a bad starter hanging on to the flywheel for too long.
Leading evidence: 'actually a bad starter hanging' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'actually a bad starter hanging' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The light fly wheel I was using did chatter a bit, nothing too crazy a little more noise then stock, but the biggest pain in the ***, was the way the clutch worked, i found it was either on or off,not impossible to use on a daily driver but not what i preferred.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
I just purchased a 99 C2 Aero...I had a PPI done at a recommended shop by this board so thanks for that!!
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a flywheel that DOES NOT chatter, specifically the Evo Clutch/FW combo?
The car needs the RMS replaced so I am going to do the clutch tat the same time since it is at 68k miles...
thanks and here's some pics! It has Porshce lowering springs(1") and champion exhaust...

The light fly wheel I was using did chatter a bit, nothing too crazy a little more noise then stock, but the biggest pain in the ***, was the way the clutch worked, i found it was either on or off,not impossible to use on a daily driver but not what i preferred. The car i found at least felt like it was quicker and it did 100% did rev faster, great mod but not for my daily driven C2 in Toronto ON.
Yea it is the factory Carbon Fiber package...Due to the Florida heat it has a little yellowing and some fine cracks here and there...
I wish i could replace the pieces individually but im worried that it won't match
I would like to get a 3spoke wheel but because i have the CF package, it makes it a difficult purchase...
I will worry about stuff like that after my clutch, RMS, SSK, Intake, Chip, and Wheels!
Regarding the flywheel "chatter"...when are you noticing that sound? I've got what could be described as a "chatter" or a metal on metal 'grind' depending on who you ask right when starting up. It lasts for a second or two.
From researching previous posts, it sounded like the cause is actually a bad starter hanging on to the flywheel for too long.
I just had a new starter installed two months ago though, and I'm getting the noise now. So I'm baffled. Any additional insight into the flywheel situation?
The chatter is at idle, I have been told by many that its a pretty normal thing, the reason the clutch was " on or off" was due to the flywheel not being a dual mass as our 996's come factory with.I don't regret doing the mod, but i also do not regret going back to the factory setup. When my new P-car is here i will be using that for a daily and the C2 for a track car, so I will go back to the light weight flywheel.I suggest before you spend the money on doing this , someone on this board that lives close to you must have a LFW in their car that you can try.
