Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Maybe a prior metal/body work repair by other than porsche shop?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
recently traded up my 1998 Boxster for a 1999 996 C4 convertible.
After 8 weeks of ownership i have discovered some rust bubbles behind both b pillar door catches.
The car was bought privately but it is under an OPC Porsche extended warranty programme until Oct 06.
All of the servicing has been carried out by Porshe OPC from day 1 with all stamps and long life annual inspection stamps duly in place.
Porsche GB have come back to me and stated that this will not be covered by 10 yr rust warranty, no explanation.
Somebody on this forum mentioned that there is a Technical service bulletin about this point. Anybody know what number it is or where i can get hold of it, i want to go back to Porsche with some counter argument.
After some digging on this and other forums i noticed that this is a known problem on early 996's and subsequent models have a seal behind catches to stop this happening.
Sorry to hear that. Did someone work the metal in that area? Maybe a prior metal/body work repair by other than porsche shop? If they did, waranty will not cover it. The shop who did the repair should. They failed to properly treat it prior to painting.
Mike,
My local OPC took a number of micrometer readings of paint thickness etc and confirmed that all was original spec, with no new paint or tampering.
I have logged my complaint against the warranty decision with Porsche GB customer services yesterday and await reply.
I cannot see how they can refuse warranty when all of their terms & conditions have been met with service stamps etc. Especially when it is a well known documented problem.
We shall see. BUt if anybody knows the service bulletin number that relates to it then that would be helpful.
The CPO warranty is not comprehensive. So check CPO agreement for rust coverage. Definitely dig out the TSB. If surface rust, the rust in sill just needs to be removed and repainted. It's not the end of the world. I think Porsche should cover it.
Porsche GB just rang to confirm that they will not honour the warranty on the rust behind my B pillar door catches.
They have looked at the pictures and claim that it is the result of an "outside influence". No further explanation. There is absoloutely no evidence of damage in this area from any influence, just rust bubbling from underneath the door catches.
I will need to write to head of customer services & warranty to vent anger.
