Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
Now that I am out of lurking and into posting I thought Id look for some opinions/pointers/pics..
I bought my 996 C2 about a year and a half ago, and deliberately bought a C2, black, with no fixed wing and simple carrera alloys as I like the classic sillouhetee and shape, and the simple lines. As happens, I spend waaaay too much time looking at other peeps cars (not least of all here) and getting ideas. Now I find myself drawn towards some mild modifications and nothing too drastic.
So am thinking of adding an Aero rear spoiler (have the skirts), and Black alloys. Do or dont?
Ive seen a few done that looked mean as hell, but then I wax my own and think, nah leave it..then waiver again : )
Also has anyone seen the stock 18 carrera 5 spoke aslloys blacked out? I saw a set on E bay, but not fitted. They looked well, but normally the Black wheels are more DTM or Gt3 style and look great, not sure the stock 5 spokes would carry it off?
Pete
I know how you feel. The only mod I've made is a1" drop.
I had a mildly modded 911 and when I went to sell it those mods cost me.
If you do anything I'd suggest it be easily reversible.
As for wings, meh, over done. As for wheels, maybe. To get something better than stock you'll spend $1000s. I don't see the ROI unless you track the car. Spending lots of money on looks always seemed silly,
First thing to do is a drop. At lease ROW (rest of world) height or lower. Springs will work but coil overs are preferred for handling. Some spacers on your wheels will go along ways well. Then do wings and body kits and wheels or whatever.
A 996 with body kit or aftermarket wheels without getting it down to ROW height just looks silly.
Oh, and change out your amber lights if you haven't already.
Hi all,
I am based in Ireland and my car is 2002 C2 3.6 UK#/ROW spec, it came with a pretty nice factory spec
Sports suspension, PSE, Aero Skirts, 18 inch C2 alloys, clear lights and side repeaters.. For some reason the black wheels and aero spoiler or GT3 spoiler really appeals to me.
As Howard says I guess none of it isnt easily reversible, I actually found a cheap boot lid with Aero spoiler on it already, so can paint that and fit and keep my own active spoiler on ice. I also have a shout at a bran new set of the same wheels as on my own car..with tyres for about the same as a set of replacement tyres!! Thinking of buying them having them powder coated black...
Ill have a brew and reflect later..
E bay is a curse...
Aesthetic mods are entirely subjective. I like black wheels and no wings, other guys like shiny wheels and big wings. You won't get agreement so it's up to you to pick a look you like.
Lowering is another story. Most everybody likes the sharper handling that lowering a car brings, so this is absolutely a positive mod. You are aware that US spec cars ride a good inch higher than European cars. That's not been doen for the right reasons.
Consider some wheel spacers too. They improve the look and don't hurt performance.
Pete, welcome to Rennlist.
1. Need pics of your car
2. black wheels look the business in my opinion. I have a silver set for daily and black set for track
3. If the mod doesn't improve performance then whats the point?
4. wings are good as long as they provide downforce but must be balanced with splitter
5. have a beer for me, happy hr. isnt for another hour over here
Thanks Carey, amd having a bottle of Hob Goblin Ale right now
Will take and post some pics of my C2 over the weekend..pretty standard really.
And thanks for the welcome...great forum!
Have a good weekend and enjoy happy hour (we arent allowed call it that any more
)
Pete
I guess I'm getting older because this is where I am at now.
Don't get me wrong, I care about how the car looks. I just think form follows function.
-Don't "lower" the car...get better suspension which will be lower which in turn looks better.
-Lighter weight racing/track focused wheels just look better in my opinion.
-Aero can really help performance if you are at that level and looks kick *** when done right.
I like the look of some wings, but every time I see the wing on my neighbor's Ford Focus, I lose the urge to add one to my 996. Auto-deploying spoilers are special, fixed wings very common.
