Hope the folks at Werks Reunion in Amelia Island plan out things better last time I checked were over 600 Porsches registered.

I was also a little disappointed where all the 996/997 cars were but honestly I was there to see other cars and didn't really care to show mine as it's nothing too clean haha.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looks like a blast... I wish I could come, but too far to drive down for this Ga boy.
But love that part of Florida... My mom was born in Miami and so it's in my blood. ha!
Cool.
I just had some work done on my 911 and asked the guys at the shop if they knew anything about this event. They said it was a great event and very worth while attending. They told me to register my car and enter it in the show. They said that way you get to park inside the event and get 2 VIP passes. I was surprised cause I just have a bone stock, silver on black 1999 C2 Cab. I didn't want to be embarrassed entering it, it is by no means a show car. So I called and just spoke with the founder of the event today. He said absolutely enter it, that it is all about getting car people together, the more cars registered the better. Even though there will be million dollars cars there.
So instead of just attending and probably paying $20 to park nearby or having to park far away and walk, for $45 I guess my car will registered and in the show area.
Before i get ahead of myself. Did you guys register to attend or register to attend and enter your car in the show? It costs $45 either way. However, if you enter your car you get a second VIP pass for the passenger and your car is parked in the show area.
I'm entering my "nothing special, factory stock arctic silver 1999 C2 Cab. because the founder of the show encouraged me to. Mine may win the "Most Boring, Absolutely Average, Least Interesting" award. If so, I will cherish it!!!
The event is free to walk around. I entered my car in event and i got two vip passes. Those alone are worth $90.
I don't expect to win anything but just for fun and be among the other 996s.
OK, with Dpazos' confirmation that his car is entered, as is mine, we officially have two Rennlist 996's entered in; class 9(1999-2004, 996s naturally aspirated) at DRT.
Rah Rah! Go Team...
Make that at least 4 RL 996s. I registered last week to make sure I got a good parking spot. Judging from previous years' photos, it looks like a hoot. I'll bring the 6GT3. The Werewife can't drive a stick, so the C2 will stay home, sobbing in the driveway.
I posted this in the Florida region area, too.
Magnus will be there so I have to make sure the car is pretty for his Dreadlockness.
For those of you that are local or in town for the weekend, here is a "cars and coffee" event the morning prior.

Being new to the community as a 996 turbo owner, I entered the show to meet and see other enthusiasts showcasing their pride and joy. Starting to get the car in tip top shape despite a recent spider web in my front bumper courtesy of "the collection" in Miami while I was there inquiring about procuring a second key. Hope to see many of you here in person this weekend.
Widehips1, I'll have an extra VIP pass for Sunday at DRT. Not sure if you bought one yet. If not, you can have it. I think they're $45 or $60 the day of. Wifey and good friend both had to cancel on me. Only things is you have to be riding as my passenger when I arrive at registration that morning.
You can meet me there and jump in and get the pass.
I'll PM you my number if your interested.....
I didn't even know there was a pre party...Guess I'm not one of the cool kids...
Porschedog, you going to The Collection for the C&C tomorrow?
I got several confirmations when I signed up. One says it starts at 10:00, the other says 11:00. Forgot to call today and find out. Do you know?
Looks like your in Hollywood. Aventura here. Sure I'll see you at some point this weekend.
I have to detail the car and do some other stuff today, so I've decided not to the the Collection event or drive. Last nights larty was a hoot. Magnus is very cool. I gotta see if the guy who cuts my hair can add dreadlock extensions.....
The inaugural Das Renn Treffen Car & Coffee at The Collection today was fantastic. Probably 150 cars, great food, great people. Magnus Walker was there.
The Rally down to Black Point Ocean grill was EPIC. 80 or so cars, police escort all the way, every red light and stop sign intersection for 15 miles was maned by police waving us thru without stopping. People honking at us, waving, taking pictures and photos. People pulled over with their jaws dropped as 80 P-cars whizzed by. I have video but don't know how to post it.

Notice:
For all of you guys attending, I asked some questions to the organizers...
a couple take aways are:
...go early, there will be traffic. Absolutely no cars allowed to enter after 10:00am when the grounds open to the public due to insurance regulations. Better to be there at 9:00. Remember there could be a long staging line of cars to get in the later it gets. And I was told if there is a line at 10:00am of cars waiting, they will be turned away.
...your passenger MUST be in the car with you to get the second VIP pass.
...cars parked in show will not be allowed to leave until 4:00pm, again insurance regulations.
...I'm bringing a lawn chair and umbrella to sit by my car and relax from time to time, it's gonna be a long day.
...see you guys there...
got there early, around 8:15 then proceeded to wait 1 hour and 50 minutes in line! the car even started to overheat slightly, anyway took the fun out of it for me, I got out of the car for a second to look and there were at least 50 cars behind me,30 cars in front, now I don't know if there was this incredible turnout of vehicles that they didn't expect? and I know to organize something like this on the city streets is not easy, but something didn't go right, what a shame spent hours prepping my car, drove another hour and ten, yes I expected to wait some, but after almost 2 hours to move a block and a half, that was it for me.I went home.I did see some cool Porsches,Lots of air cooled,356s,a spider 918,etc,not many 996s however, then again I didn't get inside.
The organizers really blew it for the 996 and 997 owners. I got there at 7:30 and was able to get into the show within 30 minutes but just as I was ready to park on sunset they told me to drive thru the road and park in a lot off the main street facing an alley. They oversold the show so the 996 & 997s got bumped outside the main street and basically out of the show. What a disappointment after detailing my car and getting there before most of the participants. DRT organizers really screwed us in my opinion. Why advertise limited to 300 cars then oversell and disrespect the participants like this? Bad form and they will hear about it.
Agreed! hardback, what a shame, overselling the show ,bad organization, now I'm glad I didn't wait to find out we (996/997) owners were sent outside the Main Street,i would have freaked out! I sent them an email wanting a refund, i no thats a joke but I let them no that they blew it, and that I am going to let everyone know.
I brought my old man down with me thought it would be a good time for us both, him owning a 964 cab and lifelong Porsche admirer. He was annoyed as well. Great cars and show hopefully generated money for the charity they chose but poor organization. Park1 crew owe the 996 and 997 participants an apology of sorts. GT3s and RSs we're parked in show with no issues.
My GT3 was one of the last 10 cars allowed in. We ended up way at the end on a side street.
The hold up was caused by each car being photographed at various angles and the car being checked in, one at a time.
Not efficient.
By the time we rolled up it was one fast snapshot, go park your car and then walk back to register and get your t-shirt, etc. That worked 100% fine by me.
I agree, the show was great as far as turnout, but they weren't prepared for it and did many stupid things to cause the problems we experienced. Waiting in line to register was literally a nightmare.
As I posted the night before I emphasized getting there early. Turns out that was more important than anything. They were told by the city that any cars for any reason that were not there and registered by 10:00 would not be allowed in. It was due to an insurance policy issue. At 10:00 there were many car waiting in line to entered and they were turned away, told to park somewhere outside the show area and then come in and join the show. This is how they made the best out of a bad situation, but it doesn't excuse the poor planning and disorganization.
No one was directing the intersection where they had set up the registration area, and people were coming in from the 2 other streets and butting in line. Add to that, they were allowing unregistered cars to enter before us. I also wait nearly 2 hours and only reached the red carpet at 9:50. Then was told to basically park in a back alley parking lot that was basically outside the show until they put up a few barriers. Very disappointing.
Here is what I was told about the issues we had. By no means is this official, only what I heard as I was leaving:
That they cancelled the judging and awards part of the show. That they were going to either refund our registration fee or discount next years fee. This is what I heard.
How do I feel about it? My understanding is that this was for charity, so receiving a refund seems silly, would rather my money go to charity than back in my pocket. For me and I assume most of us it's not about a few dollars, rather how this tarnished our overall experience. It was a bad/horrible first impression to an otherwise terrific event.
And for those who waited even longer, or never even got in, or turned around and left in disappointment and frustration. Those who drove a long distance to be there or brought special guests to share the day with. Well, frankly getting a few dollars back just doesn't make things right.
I spoke with the event organizer before hand and I am certainly going to reach out to him now, I imagine you guys will to. My hope is to provide some unpleasant feedback in hopes that it makes next years event better.
I wound up running into foxdecoy, widehips1, and boewulf. Nice meeting you guys.
what a shock, let me guess all the retro air cooled Magnus walker knockoffs got great spots along with the 993 crowd ? good for them I guess.Beat down on the 996 boys, no surprise!
Anybody up for a locals drive? Maybe North Dade County or Broward? Some time in April? If there si interest I'll set it up. 996 and 997 will get the love they deserve
I'm in for track day at either Homestead or Sebring.
Performance Driving Group at:
Homestead March 13
Sebring April 15
Homestead May 13
PDG caters their events and attracts a good turnout of drivers.
Sounds like I made the better decision to go to the 2 day PCA DE at Sebring this past weekend sorry event showed no respect to the 996 guys/gals they will be sorry when our cars turn into classics
. Hope the folks at Werks Reunion in Amelia Island plan out things better last time I checked were over 600 Porsches registered.
Rich
I would be interested in a drive.
I saw your GT3 parked on the corner towards the end but didn't see anyone around to say hello.
I was parked over in the VIP 996 area by the tow truck and the contractor van!
I actually spoke with Yordi Garcia, her and her husband are the founders and organizers. After a 30 minute conversation, yes there were problems but she explained why anything that went wrong, and why it went wrong, and most of it makes sense. A lot had to do with people showing up unregistered and being A-holes.
I gave her our side of the story and our feelings that we felt marginalized. For the most part she explain why and how they put this show together and what caused things to go a little off plan.
I was understanding of most everything she explained, I kept it positive and along the lines of constructive criticism. If you like, you can PM your number and I can explain what she had to say, or her number is on DTR website if you feel the need to speak with her.
Take away was they learn a little bit every year they have this, I think this was the third year. I read her some of our posts here and gave her the URL so she could see all the post that come in in the next few days. She promised to consider our thoughts. She was very sweet.
Yea, she and her family look really sweet. They're trying to go a good thing for that area and hoping future events will be better organized. She's on FB, but I won't post her info publicly.
There seemed to be a lot of a-holes who were jumping the loooooong lne to get into registration. That pissed me off - as one example, the guy in the red 356 with luggage and a flamingo was among that group. He went from behind me to about 30 cars in front only because some nice guy let him in. He was there to sell his car. Yeah, he might be a prince of a guy but he is a line jumper. I was one of the last 10 cars to make it inside. Yordi & her husband gave it huge effort but need more help next year. They need to ditch the photo session for each car as it arrives and let folks park and Then register for free stuff and passes. I do not blame anyone who bailed from the line to find parking elsewhere (but no love for line jumpers....).
What a complete disappointment to have to park in a back lot. Got there early took way to freaking long to get in and expected to be on the main drag somewhere.... but no we got the 996/997 step child lot... I don't want and don't expect a refund since it was a charity event but the organization was horrible. Even the VIP lounge wasn't finished they were still hanging artwork with us sitting around. Great turnout and met lots of cool Porschephiles including Magnus . My suggestion would have been to have the for sale cars in a separate area... Anyway I hope next time they will handle it differently.
The DRT organization was quite poor, I didn't get a t-shirt, we were relegated to the leper colony lot, and my 40th Anniv. didn't win a prize. LOL. It's for charity so I'm ok with the sacrifice. Hopefully it will be better next year. I enjoyed meeting RL's especially since I'm a new So Flo resident from California and long time Porsche enthusiast. I'm excited about the upcoming track events.
I observed the "classic porsche" owners with bespoke embroidered shirts... we should have our own 996 enthusiast shirts and maybe we will push the air cooled cars to the back lot next year
It's our first time at Amelia Island, but we have done 3 of these in Monterey and were very successful in getting 1000 Porsche parked in our advertised time. I can tell you we've had several hundred hours of planning of this event. Lots of top notch volunteers which PCA is famous for. We're close to 700 Porsches for the event. Crossing my fingers for a sunny day. It's going to be a blast!
Well to be honest I had a blast. Good meeting you Rolex11. I drove a little over 4 hours with a friend in my car and another who drove his own truck. All of us agree that we had a great time. I was also a little disappointed where all the 996/997 cars were but honestly I was there to see other cars and didn't really care to show mine as it's nothing too clean haha. My buddy said we actually got the VIP parking lol! I got there at about 730 and the wait was what I would consider average and met some cool people while waiting. I'll upload a few of my favorites from the event. And will be attending next year as well! Oh and got Magnus walker to sign my oem gt3 decklid because why not ha
Joesphs 996 turbo
I've not heard anyone say they didn't have a blast. I certainly did.
As as far us getting the VIP parking lot, well said. Cause we got just that "a parking lot", would have been nice to be parked in the actual show. If the 356 or 993 guys would all have been parked there, can you imagine the dust up that would have resulted. Hell, I myself would have been first to complain that the 356's and 993's were hidden.
Personally I wasn't even going to bring my car, cause it's a 996, and a bone stock one to boot. But since I did it would have been nice to be actually parked in the show. If you looked down the alley that lead to our cars it looked like a dead end service path. There was a huge noisey electric generator blocking access and hoses crossing over he ground. Which is why nobody even knew our cars where there. And again, I didn't go to highlight my car. However, I didn't bring it, pay to enter it, and stand in line for 2 hours because I chose to bring it, only to be parked outside in, as you admitted, a VIP parking lot.
And please, just because I took a nano second of time to post a list of those you were planning to attend, I am not the go to guy here. Anyone who in displeased should address the show reps. I am nobody in all this, other than a very happy satisfied attendee who can't wait for next years show.
I spoke with both Yordi and Al, the organizers and am completely satisfied. Just took a few minutes to let them know about the 2 or 3 tiny snags I experienced. Hoping only to let them know and possibly take it into consideration for next years show.
I was one of the last ten cars allowed in. Got there about 8:30, rolled in at 10AM, was directed to a spot wayyyy at the end off the main drag. Saw Magnus who is very cool. The wait to get in was far beyond ridiculous. The fact that 996/997s that registered and paid to be in the show were not allowed in perplexes me. No excuse for that IMO. Organizers spent a lot more time focused on selling swag than making sure parking spaces were ample and cars got in within a reasonable amount of time. Just sayin'.
Yordi is a lovely person but let's hope she isn't on the other end of the phone if you ever have to dial 911.
Our own little island. I was not happy with the gray honda civic so I cropped it out of the picture. I left just enough of the honda to serve as a reminder of this injustice.
After reading these posts and looking at the pics Im glad I did not go. I just cannot attend any car show where Im trapped for hours on end unable to leave. If I was left in line for 90 minutes to get in....well I would have u-turned and got the hell out of there.
I would have been really upset to get shuttled off to a side lot because I drove a 996....who the hell are these people to make decisions like that?
Porschedog should start a DCI show somewhere...guarantee it would be run better.
The easiest way to solve this problem is to create our own "Gruppe W" or "W Gruppe." Like the R Gruppe which was started by Chris Huergas we can do the same here in South Florida. We can have our W Treffen show annually, and we can even be generous and allow a few of the very sensitive and very fragile non-AC early air-cooled's in during our drives.
What do you think?
it looks like some "real Porsche" 997's got lumped in with me 996's... those guys must be apoplectic!!! 😆 I'm going to have to visit the 997 forum just to read what's being said over there...😉
Good idea Points! I'll start a P-car only show. Open to all Porsches. Even 924s (sorry, I couldn't resist - I'll behave now - mostly)
Deets to follow. I already have a local magazine ready to help promote it.
(it helps that the werewife is a big deal at 2 local foo foo mags and they ask me to write about cars, bikes, boats and watches for them. I once compared a car's trunk to Charlize Theron's tush)
It won't be affiliated with PCA, DCI or any other group except RL. (in the interests of full disclosure, a former prez of local PCA chapter once pulled a very dick move with me so I went form being extremely active in the chapter to #screwyooforeveryouposturdbucket mode.)
I'll start a new thread when I get a bit more of the foundation poured, as it were.
Happy to report I just received a refund from the DAS TREFFEN event. Was not expecting one, and because it was for charity I wasn't to upset.it is nice however that they did the right thing, now next year I will consider going again.......maybe.
Yordi just called me and walked me through what happened to 996/997. Very nice lady and her explanation makes sense. My conspiracy theory went away. She did her best which was great. It'll be better next year., We will be there. I'll try to organize a few "unofficial" GTG between now and then.
This is why I posted that I spoke with the organizers. Once doing so everything made more sense. Those of us who shared the few minor problems we had will help to make future shows run more smoothly.
My wife puts together an annual trade show in Vegas at one of the large casino resorts. Food, drinks, parties, booth construction, speakers, entertainment, signage, fire regulations, etc. etc. etc. The amount of planing and coordination is staggering. Takes all year to plan a 3 day event. And no matter what, there are always problems. She spends the entire 3 days mostly putting out fires.
I used to be on the board of the Ft Lauderdale boat parade. A one night event. It took 12 months of planning to Make it happen each year. Organizations and events have a lot of moving parts. That being said this year's DRT event leaves a lot of room for improvement next year. I'll be there to see and I hope it goes much bettter.
