of course we all occasionally run over the posted limit, it isn't hard to do in our 11 year old Porsches.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

30 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im not in to the new reverse hip phrases. But that car is SICK..... For the first time I felt I could run the car tonight on some back roads and what not.... Holy crap... And it is not even a turbo.. I cant imagin what a turbo would be like. My NA is just silly quick..... As my nephew would say That car is sick

POST 2Original post

I think the NAs of today are quicker than the TTs of just a few years back. I can actually shift into 3rd at around 25 MPH and have it pull me to nearly 100 MPH. Yes, after having my '99 for almost 7 years, it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. It's depreciated to the point that I feel it's worth an awful lot more to me than what I could sell it for.

POST 3Original post

you outta try it with summer tires (in the summer)

I remember thinking the same thing hen i got in mine... Even more so a GT2 with only the rears delivering all the power! But hey, these cars are just BAD

POST 5Original post

Welcome to the 996 family..... you should do some de's for sure. She's even more SICK on the track.

POST 6Original post

yea yea.... then she makes you sick and you end up broke, smiling and dissatisfied at work waiting for this months event HURRY UP ALREADY!

POST 8Original post

I've driven some 'car' guys in my 911 and they always agree that a Porsche handles so well compared to their muscle cars in corners and the straights, and the brakes are unreal in comparison. Repeat after me, 996 Porsches are great cars.

POST 9Original post

It's way more fun when it scares the pants off of you because it's plainly obvious that the car has way more capability than you have as a driver.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 7379343

That statement is certainly true for the majority of Porsche owners.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 7379404

Yup, true for me. I know my car can give way more than I can take and I'm not ashamed to say it.

POST 12Original post

I just hope the search for that point is not on public roads - take it to the track and scare yourself with an instructor so you understand how to stay alive when it happens

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 7379419

Mine was a straight line burst of power on an empty interstate. All I can say was that the car was calm and steady and obviously able to give way more than I could take.

POST 15Original post

My Honda scares the hell out of me.......... because it's so fu*king ugly and slow!

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 7379284

I've never had my car on a track, but I've entered hundreds of roadraces on several different motorcycles, GSXR 750s, 1100s, over a decade on several tracks around the west so I have an idea how vehicles handle at speed, how fast one can enter a turn, how to brake late, be smooth etc. Anyway, I have fun with a new passenger, screaming up on a turn fast, braking way late, flicking the car in the turn and applying throttle all very smoothly. It almost makes them sick. They will instinctly reach for the dash with both hands and step hard at the front of the floor as to be braking, and let out a sigh or sometimes even a scream. The whole time I'm carrying on a conversation about climbing or hiking. I've done this with several people, all while well within my comfort zone. The last guy was a good friend, and Delta pilot, also a previous 996 tip owner that never drove it really aggressive. Fun, fun!

POST 17Original post

LoL @ all To be honest I took mine a wee over the speed limit and it didn't scare me Till I thought about it later! Then had a tire go out a month later that was - ready..... 12 years old! (Which is why I now am such a "what's the mfg date on those tires" advocate) That's when I started to get really scared - I was well over 2x on interstate with a posted 70mph

I know where you can get some awesome A/S tires for your 911... of course we all occasionally run over the posted limit, it isn't hard to do in our 11 year old Porsches.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7379343

I have yet to hear the tires complain in a corner. Just to tell you how really little I have pushed it. I took it to work again today and put over 300 miles on... Even in 6th gear the acceleration is very very good. My corvette had a neat feature with the seatbelts. You could "sinch" your self in. There was a button on the seat belt retractor, when you pushed it, it would then ratchet the belt so you could pull it tighter around you. It was a big help when you were really pushing the car. It gave you so much more confidence in the corners by not sliding all over the seats..... Tonight I REALLY missed that feature.

I don't think I've ever heard my tires complain on a corner - Porsches don't do that, they just do what you ask.... well, until they break loose and you're in a ditch. You have to remember, the 911 isn't a Corvette and handling is the differentiator. Hell, if you wanted straight line handling you could buy a Mustang. A 911 is the sum of speed, handling and grace. A combination that's very hard to find in any other package.

POST 21Original post

Kyle, check out the 996 tips or things you didn't know about your 996 thread. Our cars have that seatbelt feature as well.

POST 22Original post

I like Nick's story at the top of this page. I took a co-worker to lunch last week. He is a muscle car owner and motorcycle rider. After a couple corners he said, "I am sure I would get used to it, but holy ****!" Then the car warmed, traffic was light and I opened it up in some interstate interchanges that I am very familliar with. Needless to say, he was shocked. Like Nick, I was very comfortable and not pushing too hard, but for those who have not been in such a car, its a lot to take in. Love the mods I have done to it. Those who have the suspension mods know what I mean

I agree Kyle, we're all just kidding about speeds on public roads, really.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7381275

Its not a "feature". its not the same. That just the seat blet lock for an accident. Its not even close to the same thing.

Just thank God you didn't go with Toyota.

POST 29Original post

Awe - Phil? The thread is "car is sick" not "owner (ex-owner) is sick" There is no therapy involved
