Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Just finished the PSE hack as outlined here: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...haust-mod.html Awesome snarl now but totally not offensive when cruising under light throttle in my neighborhood. Car begs to be reved now. When on the gas it sounds really good. Followed the aforementioned write up and bought the material from the vendor listed. It is such an easy job to do. Even if you don't weld you can take it to a shop and they will d the work and it doesn't cost that much. I'm going out right now to drive through a tunnel so I can rev out in the first couple of gears and hear the sound.

POST 2Original post

That mod is one of the best you can do to your 996. Great bang (enjoyment) for the buck!

POST 4Original post

My MK I hack sounded like a tractor at idle and a pissed off bee at high R's

Better than the other way around?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car idles almost the same as stock if not the same. The delicious snarl only happens on the gas. Of course the more revs the more deliciousness!

POST 8Original post

find a tunnel or drive between two buildings and you will (should) be surprised how much of the sound is going out the back that is not heard inside the car... it always shocks me... the good kind of shock

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ivangene, I'm such a teenager at heart that last night after putting the cans back on I went to fill up the car and drove around in a light misting with the top down to get to a tunnel about 20 minutes away and then through said tunnel about six times accelerating full bore through it. It is an intoxicating sound. Reminds me of the in car sounds of 996s tackling the Nurburgring on youtube that i've watched. Way more sound with the top down.

POST 10Original post

^^ Now I definitely want, no NEED, to do this. Sounds like you are loving it. Good job and thanks for posting on this.

POST 12Original post

when you did yours did you notice any rattling from the shavings or metals that they removed or grinded down inside the muffler... i did and wasn't too happy because not matter how i shock the muffler it didn't come out.. but once i put them on no rattling and the sound is great.. this mod replaced my fabspeed mufflers that cost 1200 new and it only cost me $100 to do...

POST 13Original post

This tread is useless without an MP3 file attached!!!

POST 14Original post

The first time I am looking at the MOD . I hate the word HACK..... I dont HACK a car. So this looks like just a small muffler bypass? I might try that

POST 15Original post

Is this hands down over Fabspeed cans? Bought these used last year but the drone after I put the Summer's back on is killing me. I think the snows hid the drone over the Winter. Never really noticed it before. Still have my stock cans so I can do the mods. Thoughts?

POST 16Original post

the Fab's drone? this "stock muffler add a pipe adjuster weld to resemble PSE" aka Hack has no drone at all. In fact at freeway cruising it sounds bone stock inside the car....

POST 17Original post

Quotes source posts: 7382454, 7382802

Well, it was better than stock but coming from the "flowmaster" world, not so good.....

POST 18Original post

I totally agree. My FisterD mod has virtually changed my 911's attitude(and mine), the sound is right. Very similar to a 79' 911 SC with Borla exhaust that I drove in the mid 90s.

POST 19Original post

I think I realized what my drone was.......my rears are down to the wear bars. Yikes! Good thing I have 2 new shoes waiting to go this weekend. Still am really thinking about mod though.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I cut the holes with a plasma cutter and didn't have any slag rattling around after. I followed the link I posted in the original post to the letter. Even bought the tubing from the vendor listed. Welded with a TIG I have in my shop. No biggie. Total time two hours. Some of which was spent drinking beer and trying to explain to my partner what I was doing. He thought I was nuts to cut holes in the mufflers until he heard the results. My wife is pushing hard to get her own cab in tip. I will definately do this mod to her car when we find the right one. Had to start the car just to hear what bypass pipes would be like. I live in a gated community with mostly older folks around who are good neighbors. I loved the sound but couldn't do it to them as I leave for the shop each day at 5am. I'd be blackballed in no time as I have to climb an incline to get out through the gate. That and I think it would be a bit much for a daily driver. As far as sound clips go.... The link on the original post has a before and after. Mine sounds identical. The term hack is a bit off-puting, but it really is nothing more than making four holes and fabbing up the pipes to mate with the contours and some simple welding. WAY worth it.

I also have the Sumi 3s and think they are a good match with the 911.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
