Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I replaced my switch by just remvong the seat and going in from under the dash...it's right there.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Car
: 2003 Porsche 996 Turbo (6 speed manual)
Car is dead in a parking lot. Little worried. Bought a jump kit. Charged it overnight. Tried to get the hood open this morning and it wouldn't send power to pop the hood. Any help greatly appreciated. In a bad jam here.
- No power at all
- checked fuses (all are ok)
- tried putting power to the side floor panel to open the hood (nothing)
notes:
- been having to turn the key a few times to get the car to start. Sometimes (usually in the morning) I'd turn the key...and it would prime the fuel pump, turn on the radio etc, but the car wouldn't even attempt to fire. A few tries and it would fire up.
- installed a GT3 rear delete kit and had to shuffle the built-in radar detector (k40 I believe) under the Gt3 front console piece. Could that be the culprit? Those wires are like an octopus.
the no start issue sounds like the ignition switch has gone out....
the battery dead, sounds like a dead battery - cause could be battery age - OR - incorrectly installed electronics (aka radar)
jump kit ? for the battery?
and the fuse trick, did you follow the renntech instructions for that?
ok got into the hood. The jump pack wasn't grounded well. Had to clean off the door hinge a little better. Going to try my spare battery now. Post back in a few minutes.
Ignition switch...would Porsche have those in stock? easy to install or no?
Got it started! Luckly I had a spare battery on the trickle charger. Strange thing is this though. This is my daily driver and I've gone through 2 brand new batteries in 5 months. This can't be normal. What could be the cause of this? I drove about 12 miles yesterday...came home...went to start it up 45 minutes later and it was fried. I have all the dome lights turned to off at all times. I don't arm the alarm in the garage. I don't get it.
I think I'm going to get that ignition switch today. Anything I should know before getting it?
You either have a drain on the battery, a problem with the charging system, or a ground problem which would cause both - I would start there, if the switch is ok and replacement doesn help, its a cheap fix and frequent failure part anyhow. Check battery draw and charging system
got the part from the dealer today

These 2 threads seem to be a good start on how to replace the ignition switch / housing

Turning the wrenches. Keep you posted. Let me know if there is anything I should know! I'm all in at this point!
Couldn't you just replace the switch (easy) and not the entire housing (not so easy)? Removing the instrument cluster seems like overkill if it's the switch.
I replaced my switch by just remvong the seat and going in from under the dash...it's right there. The contortionists among us wouldn't even have to remove the seat.
The switch itself is a cheap plastic Audi-sourced part that's prone to failure.
got the new ignition housing and switch installed. Cleaning the air ducts and left vent out, and putting it all back together tomorrow. Was not one of my favorite DIY projects. Took about 5 hours or so. PITA.
