So I installed the used PSS9 I bought on line, and then took it to a shop that sets up 996 track cars, for a corner balance and an alignment.

I set my sights on a set of used PSS9 and didn't have to wait too long before they popped up.

Porsche used softer suspensions because we americans preferred that setup over ROW suspensions, according to articles I've read.

In my experience used stuff sells for 50% of new stuff in the Porsche community.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Holy crap does my car ever feel fantastic now! World class handling, as it should be. The car feels so good that I can't help but think that Porsche sets up their USA models poorly on purpose. There must be some reason for this, perhaps still sour grapes over the war?
I'll post photos here in this thread when I get a chance. The car is low. and has a purposeful stance now.
Its so hard to convince people that the us stock stuff is total garbage. Its such an improvement I bet now you know 2 things:
1. You can't give away the stock stuff because anyone who has taken it out would never put it back (unless selling the car)
2. Never own another stock suspenssion Porsche
Now go and take some corners, its amazing!

I'm going to go ahead and say yes. I'm told that the US M030 is equivalent to the stock Euro setup, and the US X74 is equivalent to the Euro M030.
For starts the ride heights here in North America are crazy high. It used to be because of the headlight height requirements. This was back when the USA gov't mandated sealed beams and wouldn't allow halogen bulbs
. You can see why the Europeans considered North Americans stupid in those days.
I'm not sure if headlight rules still drive the crazy high ride heights nowadays though.
As far as the soft springs go....I really don't know what the deal is with that. Perhaps the majority of NA buyers really do prefer the Cadillac ride, although I think the Germans like to play a litle game. They produce the soft stuff for NA and then turn around and stick their noses up and claim we like it soft when this is clearly not true in the case of many (I hesitate to say most) Porsche drivers.
Maybe I'm imagining it, but there's no doubt the europeans like to feel superior in this regard. I'll agree that the majority of (non porsche owing) drivers in North America prefers the mindless style of driving and in fact they probably prefer a cooshy ride. Thos eof us who have driven in Europe cansay also that the style of driving there is vastly beter than that practiced here. Vancouver in particular, and the west coast in general has some of the worst lane dicipline/manners that I have ever experienced.
Anyway - rant off. I'm going to try for some photos today, ideally in the same pose as some other recent shots for comparison.
Now now you know the car isn't supposed to go over 55 and turn fast or you get a wreckless driving charge and go to jail. Bad bad boys!
European varients that could cruise the autobahn are best served with a sporty suspension. Americas slow conditions probably don't need anything near what the unlimited speeds require. Just lessening the toe in makes a big difference for handling but some in the slow world wouldn't like having to mantain positive control of the car with less toe in.
Congrats on your suspension! Glad to hear it transformed your car - this is motivating me for sure. The floaty stock suspension is killing me too. Can we buy the US M030 or the Euro M030?
I see the ROW M030 at Suncoast for $1,150...very tempting. Is this ROW M030 different from the U.S. "sport" suspension that's on the 40th anniversary model? I don't want to go any lower than what this one offers. It seems like a good option and decent upgrade over stock.
Maybe I'll only do 2-3 DE's this year instead of 4-5...that will help with the cost of the ROW M030.
I, too, am in the same process.
I am very dissatisfied with OEM suspension. It leans like a drunken sailor in a turn. and god forbid, you have to make 2 rapid turns. like looking where you've been?
i am looking at several coilover sets.
anyone have any experinece with
d2racing
ksport
these seem to be the cheapest, about $1k. New PSS9 seems to be about 1800

I have PSS10s and I have driven the stock suspension. Its like night and day. I suspect the softer suspension is because a lot of people use the car as a daily driver and it might be too harsh. Since my car is not my daily driver, the stiffer suspension suits me. It seems these cars should come in two flavors, one with the sport suspension and sport exhaust and the daily driver mushy quiet version.
I didn't do too much homework, I just gathered from the chatter that the Bilstien setup with a H&R sway bars worked, so that's what I got.
I set my sights on a set of used PSS9 and didn't have to wait too long before they popped up. I picked them up for $1100, although spending the extra $900 or so on a set of new ones would have been worth my while had the used ones not come up.
I picked the H&R sway bars up used as well, although for the life of me I can't remember from who or from where ?
Anyway - I'm just back from an all too short drive. It feels really nice - less harsh than the stock stuff even, just a beautiful refined feel to it now.
For sure the corner balance and alignment help a lot. This wasn't cheap. I paid $1200 but that included parts and labour for a new set of inner tie rod links worth $500+. My (new) guy said they were worn, which explains the wiggling I was getting under braking.
Here's the before and after snaps:
I wasn't happy with the OEM set up and replaced it with the X-74. A definite improvement; however, I have to watch the potholes and manhole covers since the car sits much lower. I already destroyed one engine cover plate.
I have snow to deal with and don't want a 1.5 - 2.0 drop. That's why I'm considering the M030. The X74 is too much for my DD. Any other suggestions? The M030 comes with bars, dampers, and springs.
The PSS9 are ride height adjustable so they can be set up at C4 height or down at race car height. That's one of the big benefits of the coilover setup, adjustable ride heights. I was thinking even of dialing them up for the winter and down for the summer, but now that I've seen how fine the threads on the ride height adjusters are I don't think that's practical. Plus which I'd mess up my brilliant alignment.
I think I'll buy a beater for the winter instead. The 4 months of insurance savings will pay for the car!
$2K new so $1K used. In my experience used stuff sells for 50% of new stuff in the Porsche community.
I haven't been looking so I don't know what's available. I found mine in the classifieds on this site, but waffled and the seller ended up going to ebay where I bought them for $100 more.
I still cant remember where I found the sway bars...I guess it must have been on the Rennlist classifieds also. I made a not that I paid $500 for the set though.
so with the pss9/10 you might not get sways and that will be in addition to the shocks/springs - I suggest OEM GT3 sways as a great step up from stock BUT will also tell you that they are not required for a huge improvement over stock. The sways come into play only on very agressive cornering and without that, there is very little noticable difference on day to day driving where as the shock/springs make a huge difference every second of every trip..... and it is great !!
I had a higher ride height when PSS9 first went in for the weekend and did not really care for it. After dropping to GT3 height, the cornering was night and day with the same suspension setting. The lower gravity really makes a difference even if its an inch.
Both are adjustable for ride height, but also for dampening. The PSS9 adjustable for rebound dampening only, and there are 9 positions, the PSS10 dampening adjustment affects both rebound and compression, and there are 10 settings. The PSS10 evolved from the PSS9 I believe.
The dampening adjustment seems to have no discernable effect. I have mine set in the middle now. After a while I'll twist them to full hard and see if I can tell the difference.
