Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just picked up a 1999 911 Porsche 4 GT2 Areo kit with 84,000 miles. It seems too be in great running condition and well kept up on maintenance. The car looks almost new. I was just wondering if I should be worried about anything because of the milage. Its just going to be driven only on weekends in the summer, maybe about 2k miles a year. I always wanted a 911. I traded a 03 SVT Mustang Cobra with only 22k miles for this Porsche. I hope I did the right thing. Thanks Mike

POST 3Original post

Bueller? Good job, and you'll want to drive it more than 2k miles per year.... Bueller?

POST 4Original post

I look at it like this: Can you work on cars? If yes, it will be minimal to maintain - just find some online maintenance manuals. If you can't, make sure you have thousands of dollars available at anytime. I spent about $1k in parts up to 100k miles when I sold. You could also look at how much you are willing to let things go and not fix back to perfect. If you want it perfect, it will cost you.

POST 12Original post

911mike99 Warning. Tim is the picture guru. Must post pics of your car on RL or Tim will find you. Since you're new he'll probably be nice. Actually it's not a rule it's kinda a strong suggestion... As to the car? I have 100K on mine and she's still cruising. Glad to have you on board!!

POST 13Original post

BTW, I do have a 996. Guess I need to post it again.

YEA! but at 115k miles I still sleep at night Try reading the "Buyers Guide" on this forum - its a good read and will give you a few sleepless nights...... plan on driving it more for LESS trouble - Tim = newby hospitality director - he will demand some pics

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 7358282

Appease the demanding, post a pic of your 99 Porsche...then you become part of the 996 owners club where you can find plenty of info about fixes for common issues and where to buy parts and future mods. Welcome to the forum.

Sorry everyone for no pic, I will try and post a pic, If its not to hard to post. when. When I get home tonight.

POST 19Original post

I'm at +10 zulu so I'll know if you didn't post pics hint hint Driving the car is good for it. Battery, oiled parts, fuel, seals, lines, tires and endless things work good if the car is kept operating. I'm past 100,000 miles and I'm not sure if my gas mileage is 18 due to a habit of making the tail come up. I think the engine runs cooler that way Anyway you are going to have to always use a fuel stabilizer during storage since the gas is always going to go bad having it parked so long.

POST 20Original post

Welcome to Rennlist! as long as your car is well cared for don't sweat the miles, just enjoy! Did you have a Pre purchase inspection done before you bought it? and.... TIM!!!

POST 21Original post

Tim! TIM !!!!! He's got a GT2 kit on his car!!!! You already have the car so whatevers and who cares now if the car has a problem Same thing Tim did buying his car.....hmmm I did the same thing The user CP section will allow you to insert your location and all so neighbors on the forum can get together and guys like me in the endless summer will know if you have a really good excuse for only driving the car during summer months. After the pictures of your car you can reduce the size and use it for your avatar. So then your car and location will show on the left side of the screen when you post.

POST 22Original post

Welcome, 125,000 miles here, I drive it every day for the last 5.5 years.

POST 23Original post

I wonder if this is the black 99 with the GT2 kit that has been for sale on Craigslist and other sites for a while. It seems like the mileage is the same IIRC. I don't want to make you worry but I thought I saw an email from a previous owner warning about issues with this car. If you got a PPI, hopefully you know what you are dealing with.

POST 24Original post

Man..... no wonder my ears were burning this afternoon at work! Did someone mention pics???? Welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on getting what "sounds" like a nice looking 996. However, we can't be certain about that since you didn't post any pics. So you can consider this as your "Newbie Initiation!" Come on Newbie, post the @#$%^&* pics! This is all meant in good fun and has become a tradition here on the 996 Forum! Again, Welcome to Rennlist!

No black here. and not bought from craigslist

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is the only pic I can get up. How do you get pics up

POST 27Original post

dont be afraid of driving it. that's what it was built for! as a general rule, keep it under 3k rpm until temp gets up to 180. then, every now and then run it at 4k rpm for 1 min. just to keep everything oiled. and, once you get used to it, sign up for a Driving Event (through Porche Club of America). Then you will begin to appreciate your car. i have been driving P-cars for 30 yrs, and when i got my current car, 2002 C4S, i liked it. I signed up for 2 days at Watkins Glen, and now I LOVE IT. it is a completely different car at >5k rpm. and the brakes stop on a dime and give you a nickel change. unless you get to a DE, you will never know...... best of luck. surfer161 pictures?????

Thanks, but not sure what color code yellow this is. It might be (Speed Yellow). I want to get some touch up paint. But I need to no for sure what color it is. Anyone no?

POST 34Original post

THAT looks great!!! enjoy it and drive the damn wheels off it!!! Why keep it for the "next guy" wear it out so when the day comes you dont say "I should have drove it more" they love snow and rain, awesome in bad weather, and waiting for those "nice days" just takes too damn long!! learn how to care for the paint and maintain it well........... go dog go !!

POST 36Original post

frequent trips to the garage for "no reason" are also normal.... go ahead, we'll wait

POST 37Original post

You made the right decision on trading the Mustang for this. Congrats!

POST 38Original post

Open front trunk. Unsnap passenger side liner and possibly have to undo black plastic brake tank cover. Label for paint is on the side of trunk wall.

POST 40Original post

Nice looking ride! Thanks for posting the pics! I'm glad you kept the string alive!

POST 41 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everybody. I also had 4 corvettes before and a bunch of mustangs. The 911 was always my dream car.

POST 42Original post

Looks great. If you maintain it properly, you'll get many miles of enjoyment out of it.

POST 43Original post

nice car...compared to your 03 cobra it'll be a little slower in a straight line, and a lot less dramatic taking off, but overall your new Porsche will make a mustang or corvette seem real large and boat-like.

POST 44Original post

Nice looking ride (love yellow). BTW. Check under bonnett (or whatever the name of the front hood is). There's the color code for outside color, interior color, and a bunch of other stuff. Do a search and you can fine what each code stands for.

POST 45Original post

Have you had a chance for any extended seat time in your SY911 since your purchase? Curious how you would rate handling, braking, steering feedback etc...to your Vettes and 'stangs.

POST 46 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7361620

Not much seat time here, to much snow in PA rght now. I dropped the insurance to the weather gets better. The 911 has been sitting. But spring is around the corner. Then I will be hitting road.

POST 47Original post

Quotes source post: 7359958

You done good....great looking car and I wouldn't worry about the miles. I do have a few suggestions: 1. Perform maintance per driver's manuel religiously( I got 250,000 miles out of an older 911 engine. 2. Drive it at least once per week(preferably more) and you will have less maintance issues...they like to be driven. 3. Replace your garage car pictures with Porsche pictures. Your 996 doesn't want to share your loyalty...... 4. Get it to the track and be amazed...... Enjoy........

Looks good 911mike99. Wait till you feel the mid to high rpm range punch in that baby! It impressed me I am a firm believer now. Porsche there is no substitute. Their company motto fits the car perfectly.
