When you put the bumper back on, the bottom of the bumper has 2 tabs that fit into 2 recieving slits, in a black plastic piece that is attached to the underside of the car with a pushpin fastene,r as used on the ones on the wheel well liner.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After reading some talk about a 3rd radiator, which I have owning a tip, I decided to check all 3 for dirt and debris. MAN!! I couldnt believe the crap in the 2 side areas! Leaves, sticks, butts, and a ton of small rocks and sand! Enough that I went a bought a small shop vac to do the job, and it did well!! Anyway, check these areas for dirt, enough buildup will affect your cooling no doubt. My car was from the east coast CT then Jersey, many trees and things Thought I'd share

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7377469

I didnt, it looks like I did a thorough enough job though. Im sure I could do better with the bumper off, but this is SO much better!

POST 4Original post

remove the bumber and take off the A/C condensor... there is a LOT more in there clogging your airflow!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7377487

I will have to do that. Im off tomorrow, that may be the right time!

POST 6Original post

This may help....good video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um-h2aUJHY4 I have a Tip too...maybe this saturday Ill do mine.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 7377443

To do complete job bumper must come off: See pic. The A/C condensor needs to be unbolted and gently swung out a bit to allow you to get to space between A/C condensor and radiator. If you remove bumper take notes/pics/draw diagram to ensure screws go back in right place and bumper and underbody panels fit properly. It is easy to get them wrong. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 9Original post

That's on my to do list before I have it detailed in the spring. For those that have done it, is it hard to line up the bumper cover when bolting things back together?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7377576

My rads were like that, but them babies are clean now! Actually I see now you have the condenscers away and the junk in between. I willhave to do this for sure!! Excellent vid!!! Thanks!!

POST 11Original post

bumper comes off easy and goes back on even easier

POST 12Original post

be careful to support the condensor on something like a one gallon paint can.... you dont want it to hang by the connections removing the headlights (super simple) helped me... other have done it with them in

POST 13Original post

Heed the advice to remove the bumper and separate the rads and condensers. The PO of my car never attended to this at all. Also, when I used to get the car dealer serviced, they apparently just hosed the area out, despite my request (and willingness to pay) for disassembly and cleaning. The result over time was that mung in the corners between the two pieces collected moisture and salt and eventually corroded the radiators. I was able to salvage the condensers with a chemical bath, but had to pony up for a pair of new rads last spring.

POST 14Original post

Is the C4S more susceptible to gathering debris at the radiators since it has a much bigger front opening? I haven't ever done this on my non-daily Carrera. It is an '03.

POST 15Original post

Well, guess what just made your "to-do" list!

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 7378970

Bigger opening suggests more air flow and more air flow the more trash will enter the opening. But the biggest factor in my opinion is the radiator fans. When these run these cars are like 4-wheel Hoover vacs. just sucking up the trash traffic ahead kicks up or the wind kicks up. In USA the right side seems to get the worst of it, cause I suspect the right side of the road is generally where the trash collects and is kicked up by cars/vehicles ahead of your's. But both sides will have their fair share of trash. Here's a pic of the driver's side. Plenty of trash on this side, too. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I just my bumper back on. Went pretty smoothly thanks to the video showing exactly what screws to remove. I opted to remove the front portion of the wheel wheel liner, 2 torx srews and 4 push tabs. This made it way easier to get to the awkward screw behind the side marker, that sits vertically & upside down. Was a fair amount of garbage in between. Cooling will be ready for the 110 temps that are right aroung the corner here in Vegas!!

POST 18Original post

Just out of curiosity, would you post any differences in water temperature that may have occurred after cleaning ot the radiators? Thanks. I have to do this soon.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7379910

I sure will! My car was at a lttle over 180 at full operating temp. Maybe 190ish. I didnt check the computer for an exact temp But I will see if the gauge shows any different.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There is one thing I want to add to this that is not stated in the vid. When you put the bumper back on, the bottom of the bumper has 2 tabs that fit into 2 recieving slits, in a black plastic piece that is attached to the underside of the car with a pushpin fastene,r as used on the ones on the wheel well liner. If you get the bumper back on, you will undoubtadly miss these slits, as I did, at which time some disassembly may have to happen if you have started to attach screws and things, or, you can just take out the pushpin fastener attaching the black plastic to the underside, and move it and swing it back and direct the bumper tab into the slit. This pushpin takes some finess to get out, but its alot easier than trying to move the bumper if you have already reattached many screws and fasteners. Short story is look for this when you reassemble!

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 7379910

The several times I've cleaned my 02 Boxster's radiators out I never noticed the car running hot before the cleaning or running any cooler after the cleaning. And I used an OBD code reader/data viewer to monitor coolant temperature. The in-dash gage is too insensitive for anything more than roughly knowing if the engine's cold, warm, hot, or too hot. These cars have a lot of cooling capacity and even with the amount of trash my 02 collected didn't affect the engine coolant temperature. The biggest risk is the corrosion that can ruin the A/C condensor or the radiator. The condensor's most at risk cause the stuff piles up at the bottom of the ducting and when this gets wet corrosion will resume its dirty work. Sincerely, Macster.
