I was running errands so earlier in the day with car up to operating temp, the oil level was right in the middle between the top and bottom oil level marks.

I'm pretty mindful about the oil level and just about everything else about the car. I was getting gas today (got a nice simple nozzle this time ) and when I started it back up, I got the message on the display. I was running errands so earlier in the day with car up to operating temp, the oil level was right in the middle between the top and bottom oil level marks. Post the message, I parked and started the car on a level surface after it had been sitting for about 5 minutes and the oil level was the same as before. Well above the low mark. Should I be concerned or does his happen sometimes?

I noticed the same problem on my car last year. More of an annoyance than anything else. Does anyone know if this is expensive to replace?

Mine did this once. I don't think the oil had enough time to drain back into the crankcase to be measured accurately.Checking it on a level surface after a proper amount of time to let it drain is the only way to go.
